Hundreds of visitors from [Kansas'] sister city in Japan are taking in the sights and sounds of Kansas City this week.

Four hundred and seventy people from Kurashiki, Japan, will spend the next six days touring Kansas City.

The group arrived Wednesday at the Kansas City International Airport in a 747, a jet rarely seen at KCI.

Most of the visitors don't read or speak English. About 50 interpreters will help the group during their visit.

. . . The group will go to Kauffman Stadium to see the Royals play the Yankees on Thursday night. During their visit they'll also visit local parks and museums, and they'll see a performance of "The Wizard of Oz" at the Starlight Theatre.

The visitors will also have a chance to see the mural on the south side of Bartle Hall depicting Kurashiki, a city of about 407,000 on Honshu island.

When Kurashiki's mayor proposed the visit to Kansas City two years ago, they were expecting only 100 people.

But it turned out that Kansas City was a popular destination . . . more

Let's just hope that the visitors don't suffer a "Kansas Complex" akin to "Paris Sydnrome".
