Shibuya Drugs Bust

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Jul 27, 2007 9:26 am

ZAKZAK reports (Japanese) that Shibuya police yesterday announced they had arrested 5 drug dealers and 72 customers in a sweep. One dealer seems to be Dutch while among the customers was an Australian and a Filipino. An embassy staffer is also reported to have been arrested.

The group ringleader, one "キヨマース・シミヤリ" (Kyomas Shimiyari?) is now being described by as Iranian-Dutch while the other four dealers arrested are said to be Iranian. 66 of the 72 customers detained seem to be Japanese. They range in age from 19 to the mid-60s and include students, company employees, bar and restaurant workers, housewives and a lawyer. Most of the drugs were sold in Shibuya's Center Gai but some were also dealt in Ebisu and Daikanyama. The gang had been watched since last year and police have confiscated drugs worth 14 millon yen at street prices from an apartment in Shinagawa.

roughly $135,000 dollars. That is really small potatoes.

This from a years worth of work? My ass! Most likely Ishihitler told them to go bust some gaijins and their customer's so he could have something in the news to talk about.

$135,000 still is a lot of oregano and OXO cubes.

What's that device front and center on the tarp, anyone know?

The way the money is draped in the form of two fans is so nice.

hehe. Yeah they totally could have turned the whole display into a Japanese culturama. You've got the money sensu, now if they just packed some weed around the syringes you could get a good few senko sticks happening, and with the crystals and powders why not make a few dishes of mori shio? :D

But I wonder why would anyone need a scale when all the stuff is already bagged up? Or do the police bag it up after they confiscate it? Have you ever known anyone to pull out their scale when buying a baggie?

Also I'm wondering how can so many people be busted in a single raid. Around 70 people busted at once must mean that it was at a club right?

They raided the dealers' flat in Shinagawa so the scales were found there.

In an interesting parallel, the value of the haul almost exactly matches the earnings reported in the story of the high school prostitution ring.

Japanese people doing drugs? Does this mean that hippies are about to become vogue in Tokyo? Where's my shotgun?

What a joke/mercy bust - anyone that lives in Shibuya knows the guys who have been dealing there for years (same 3 or 4 guys) Iranians under the Kobayashi family. Getting a little heated up by the slack payoffs and pressure by the Isaeli mob who is responsible for most of the laundering. The local gendarme had to do <something>. The 135k is trival - they pull that at least every week - not counting the handoffs to the other corners. When will people in Japan actually know or care what the f* is happening in their own back yard???
See you in PyonPyang!

Absolutely, it's a meaningless bust no matter how much you fan out the money. I just wonder who the eight foreign clients were especially since one is said to be an embassy staffer.
