Japanese Pornographers Adopt Blu-Ray

[floatr]Image[/floatr]PC World: Japanese Porn Industry Embraces Blu-Ray Disc
The HD DVD high-definition movie format may have the lead in the U.S. porn industry, but Japanese adult film makers have turned decisively to Blu-ray Disc, breathing new life into its bid to replace DVDs as the disc of choice for home movies. Sony Corp. has started offering more technical support to the adult film industry in Japan, movie makers said at the Adult Treasure Expo 2007 in Chiba, Japan, and the problem of finding companies to mass produce their movies appears to be over...Until now, only a handful of companies operated the stampers needed to copy thousands of Blu-ray Disc movies at a time. But the Japanese company handling most of the early Blu-ray Disc adult film releases in Japan says it has partnered with a Taiwanese company able to secure the necessary equipment from Sony...more...

As the high def format wars continue, I've been surprised by the number of times that I've seen comments along the lines of "which ever side the porn guys pick will be the winner" and this thought has been used a fair bit by the HD DVD fanboys in the US, after several large US porn studios said HD DVD was their pick (presumably because HD DVDs are cheaper to manufacture than blu-ray). While this thinking was possibly sound in the VHS/Betamax era, given the other home based porn choices currently available, such as standard def DVD and downloads, I don't think this is argument has much validity nowadays...and given the level of detail in HD, I don't know if viewers are going to be clamoring for it. Based on watching mission impossible 3 in HD and standard def DVD, all I can say after watching the HD version is that Tom Cruise is obviously wearing a fair bit of make up and looks a fair bit older than he does in the standard def version...In other words, HD is not forgiving at all, and I don't know if most of the viewers would want such a level of detail that you could pause an image and count the suture scars from a well done boob job.

I've heard some actors have 'no HD' clauses in their contracts for just that same reason.. Could be a bullshit rumor though.. I don't see how a working actor would be able to resist the changing format..

Yeah, at some point, the studios will just hire actors who look good enough for HD and the worse looking ones will get paid less or just not get work anymore.

I almost went to that adult expo 2007 or whatever at Makuhari but I figured the 3000 yen door fee plus the pouring rain was not worth the effort. It was probably not like the porn conventions they have at Vegas so oh well.

HD formats mean that there will be less physical make-up and more digital make-up. Digital make-up is fairly common now but usually in tandem with panstick. Soon, digital artists will take over the whole job. This will probably mean an era where all our TV anchors look like anime figures but, then again, we didn't seem to mind when they all went orange.

I suspect there will also be shifts in they way camera angles are used as well. One of my local TV stations here in the US has shifted their local news programming to HD, and they don't seem to get as tight in with the news people as they used to...before it used the standard shot seemed to along the lines of 2/3rds news person and 1/3 over the shoulder graphic and now that they've gone HD, it seems more 1/2 news person and 1/2 news graphic, although this may also be a result of their new upgraded news graphics capability as well.

It gives my PS3 something to do other than being a really nice speaker stand. Hell it ain't even-plugged in anymore. But then again I wouldn't waste my money on Blu-ray porn when its free on the internet :bounce:

True. I saw the latest Spiderman flick in high def and came out of the theater thinking "I now know FAR more about the freckles, pimples, lumps and bumps on Tobey Maguire's pugly face than I ever wanted to know". It took me out of the story several times when I was just sitting there thinking about whether he should be seeing a dermatologist about that one on his neck.

Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

It's a genki pornographer. Can't you tell? I suppose you would have preferred something more subtle like this:

Having said, I have noticed how wrinkly Fujiwara Norika is when you see her commenting for K-1 on Hi-Def TV. Can't blame her. The good ol' age is catching up with her.
