Art - Maywa Denki "Nonsense Machines"
Via TokyoQ
President Masamichi Tosa and vice-president Nobumichi Tosa formed Maywa Denki in 1993, and became well-known in Japan for their regular appearances on Takeshi's TV Tokyo art program Daredemo Picasso. The two artists usurp the blue workshop outfits and home-electronics brand paraphernalia of Japanese industrial high-tech to create their own completely useless gadgets, musical instruments and home appliances. This retrospective shows decades of nonsense machinery, from the Tsukuba series of musical instruments the guitara and roctopus and the Naki series of fishy kitchen appliances to the Edelweiss series of mecha whatsits. High concept art with an arch sense of humor.
