Well, it looks like I found an apartment and will be moving sometime this month. I was just wondering what places you guys would recommend for furniture (not appliances). I want stuff that's decent but not too expensive so IDC Otsuka, for example, is out of the question. I'm moving from a tiny 1K and into a 1LDK that's about 40 m sq and I need pretty much everything. I know about places like Nitori, Muji, and Ikea. I was just wondering of there were any others you'd recommend in the Tokyo area.

Personally I have no trouble with "pre-loved" furniture.
Salvation army bazaar in Nakano-ku - only open Saturday mornings 9am - 2pm - but has everything. sayonara sales craigs list http://www.quoz.biz
Otherwise, I do like Seibu Loft in Shibuya, Franc Franc and Tokyu Hands. Costco is always a winner.
You can also try the on-line catalogue shops like Rakkuten and Nissen. Cheap as anything and they deliver but you really need to have some japanese to be able to understand the ordering terms.
I think going to a combination of all the places mentioned works best, at least givng up the hope of one stop shopping worked for me. I found cool floor lamps at nitori, as well as zabuton, sheets, pillows and pillow cases. I bought a rug at Ikea and think they are good for all the little things for decorating as well as kitchen stuff. I dont remember where I got my couch. I buy my alcohol at Bic Camera and drink it out of Ikea glasses.
GG, I don't mind, and sometime even prefer, used hardwood furniture. But I definitely want a new mattress and couch. Also, I'm pretty picky about comfort when it comes to seating since I've got a nagging back injury from my martial arts days, so I usually don't order stuff online unless it's a model I've already physically tested.
GC, yeah that Noce place looks pretty cool. Very reasonable and some funky designs. I'll actually have to go check one of the shops out and see if it's comfortable.
Anyway, it looks like my plans for my next few weekends are pretty much taken care of.

For getting design ideas etc, In the Room in Shinjuku is a lovely store. It is part of the 0101 (Maruii) group I think. Not as expensive as IDC but more expensive than Ikea. Plus it is Shinjuku and you don't have to truck all the way into Chiba.
Thanks guys. I went all over town yesterday and today checking stuff out at the places you recommended. I should be able to furnish my place for about half of what I thought. Which leaves me that much more to buy a kick-ass home theater system!
I'll probably be spending a lot more weekends at home once I move.

I'd shoot over to my neck of the woods - Okubo. Lots of Korean recycle shops with great Love Hotel leftovers. Now you furnish your pad in chic 'bubble-tel' suede AND get that great deal on a fridge. BTW - we got our bitchin fridge (big enough for ice, fridge and veggie cooler) on Yahoo auction for only 3000y!! Brand new!! Japanese will throw anything away - combine that with the efficient services of Sagawa and you'll be paying pennies on the yen for swankness.
