Pitcher strikes out purist Japan
The Telegraph / By Colin Joyce in Tokyo
(Filed: 19/11/2004)

Japan's image of itself as a racially homogenous nation has been set back by a half-Iranian, half-Japanese schoolboy who has become the country's biggest mixed-race star.
Yu Darvish, 18, is a baseball pitcher with movie-star good looks. He dominated the news yesterday as he was signed by the Nippon Ham professional baseball team. ...more....

Kyodo: Top draft pick Darvish suspended from high school for smoking
Tohoku High School said Monday it has decided to suspend the Nippon Ham Fighters' top draft pick Yu Darvish from school after it confirmed a media report that the 18-year-old pitcher was smoking while taking part in minor-league spring training. School staffers will be sent in a few days to the team dormitory in Kamagaya, Chiba Prefecture, where he is staying, to ask about the matter. If suspended, he cannot attend the school's graduation ceremony on March 1. It is illegal in Japan for people under 20 to smoke.

Totally Booger. That is so over the top extreme. Racist as all Hell. He should tell them all to lick his sac and go straight to MLB. I think he's got what it takes.

He should tell them to fuck off and try-out in the States, where baseball is played. Not oyajiball... Booooring, calculated, riskless oyajiball..

Of course, I also think it's bullshit he's smokin' cigs; he should be shootin' roids. Get with the program, you skinny fuck!

Chill out, dudes_it was a cigarette, not crack cocaine

Man About Sports: Chill out, dudes_it was a cigarette, not crack cocaine
asahi.com, March 8, 2005
Comments by Nippon-Ham Fighters spokesman Toshi Shimada on the Yu Darvish-underage smoking-fiasco smacked of professor Harold Hill in the 1962 movie ``The Music Man.''

[...]

If Nippon-Ham was truly interested in taking a stand against smoking-and not just making a grandstanding moralistic PR gesture at the expense of a kid-turned indentured servant-they would have banned smoking in the Fighters' clubhouse.

[...]

Vance Law, a former Chunichi Dragon said it best: ``I don't get it-they run sprints to the point of exhaustion and then go back in the clubhouse to see how many cigarettes they can squeeze in before game time.''

(Full Story)

Odd article but some interesting bits to it, especially in the 2nd half.

CORRECTION

that picture is not DARVISH !

DARVISH is at least 18.

The kid in the picture is 15.

The kid pictured is full JAPANESE. Darvish is the one with the sharp pointy nose !!!!!

Japan Times: Darvish earns win in first pro start as Fighters down Carp
Yu Darvish picked up his first career win in his first professional start Wednesday as the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters downed the Hiroshima Carp 8-2 in interleague play. Darvish, who struck out three and gave up two runs on nine hits, held the Carp scoreless over eight innings before giving up solo homers to Takahiro Arai and Kenjiro Nomura in the top of the ninth inning at Sapporo Dome. Yoshitaka Hashimoto came on in the ninth to get the final three outs.

Darvish Getting Hitched

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Aug 08, 2007 4:17 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Fast work from half-Iranian, Nippon Ham Fighters pitcher Yu Darvish. Sponichi (Japanese) is reporting that the 20 year old is due to marry his girlfriend. Also 20, actress Saeko is currently a student at Waseda University. Why the sudden decision? She's pregnant, says Sponichi. Her agency would only confirm the relationship while the Fighters office said that it was up to the players to comment on personal matters. Sponichi goes on to say that the two have been dating for three months and Saeko is reported to be three months pregnant.

Isn't he the one with the 'super-duper spiralina shotgun' pitch promoted by NHK? ;)

So pretty much, he inseminated on the first date. Anyone care to wager how long this marriage lasts?

Rotoworld: Japanese phenom Darvish could be posted
Sankei Sports in Japan reports that the Nippon Ham Fighters might be willing to post 21-year-old right-hander Yu Darvish after next season if he's interested in playing in the majors. Don't do penciling him into your 2009 rotation just yet. Darvish won't be eligible for free agency until 2014 and has previously said that he's not interested in coming to America. That he'd likely command a posting fee in excess of the $51.1 million the Red Sox paid for Daisuke Matsuzaka could open the door for the Fighters to take the money and run. However, it's all just speculation at this point. Darvish went 15-5 with a 1.82 ERA and 210/49 K/BB ratio in 207 2/3 innings last season. He'll find himself on the international stage for the first time in this year's Olympics.

Lotta groupies follow the ball players around over here. She might be just one of his hobbies, not be his wife!

His wife was at one point considerably more famous than he is, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out if it's her.
