Tokyo Bags - Morsbag sewing pod

Postby GomiGirl » Tue Aug 21, 2007 4:31 pm

TokyoBags:
http://groups.google.com/group/tokyobags?hl=en

A small group of social sewing amateurs is calling for donations of fabric (old futons, curtains, sheets, tablecloths - anything really) to be recycled into shopping bags following the "Morsbags" philosophy - http://www.morsbags.com

Morsbags is a grassroots, community based and global project with a mission to reduce the number of plastic shopping bags that are thrown away each year.

All the shopping bags that we make are given away to friends, to strangers at shopping centres and local festivals. These bags are never sold or used for any sort of fund raising. The idea is for us to get together, have fun, eat, drink, be merry and sew.

For more information please see our Google groups - TokyoBags:
http://groups.google.com/group/tokyobags?hl=en

Or PM me for details.

Join us for the next sewing day - we meet every two weeks or so.

Or start your own sewing pod with some friends - or by yourself. We have free patterns and instructions available. This is also great for children to contribute to their community and also to be creative. Keep the little monsters busy during Summer break.

at least in Japan,
plastic shopping bags are made from dregs of oil.
In other words, shopping bags itself are recycle.
so no need to do that.

This is not really the point - the point is that they are thrown away and end up in waterways and other places. Animals get caught up in them or eat them and die or are badly hurt.

It is to reduce the amount of gomi -so for those of you would like a little less gomi in their lives, this is the project for you!! :p

So, sweatshops full of people (sometimes children), sewing for no pay, are now called "sewing pods"?

Study showing that there are 6 times more plastic in the ocean than plankton. Plankton are at the bottom of the food chain and we are at the top - so you do the math and think about how much plastic is in your food. So sashimi is starting to resemble the plastic models in the windows.. Yum Yum!!
