Democracy and freedom of speech have not yet arrived in Japan.
Hey, it is still only 2007.

Isn't the whole imperial family grown in test tubes?

Japan Times: 'Princess Masako' translation revised here in the works
Tokyo-based Daisan-Shokan said Thursday it will publish early next month a Japanese translation of a controversial book on the life of Crown Princess Masako written by an Australian journalist. Kodansha Ltd. was initially planning to publish the translation of "Princess Masako," which is subtitled "Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne," but backed out after the Japanese government said the book contains groundless claims. A Daisan-Shokan official said, "We have determined that this book must be published mostly here in Japan." The Japanese translation contains several changes to some of the claims made in the original.

The Foreign Ministry had sought an apology and "corrections" from the author, Ben Hills, and the original publisher, Random House, over the book about Crown Princess Masako, a former diplomat who is now the wife of Crown Prince Naruhito. Hills, however, earlier said on his Web site that the ministry had made "no specific claims of factual inaccuracy" in the book, and that it has been on sale in Australia and the United States for months without a word from the Japanese government.

Reuters: Australian author threatened over Japan royals book
The Australian author of a controversial book on Japan's Crown Princess Masako said on Tuesday he had received death threats, ahead of the book's Japanese-language release this week. The Japanese government has said that the original version of Ben Hills' "Princess Masako - Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne" was an insult to the royal family and had sought an apology from him. A Tokyo-based publisher will release the Japanese version of the book on Wednesday, months after another publisher's plans for a translation were scrapped, prompting Hills to complain that Tokyo had censored his work. Hills said he had received several anonymous e-mails in the run-up to the translation's publication. "'Die white pork' was one of them," he told Reuters by telephone. "Of course I feel threatened. I'm not very amused"...more...

I would guess there is real danger that the author and especially the publisher will be the victims of a rightist attack.

This clown has to be announcing this for a publicity ploy, because it is only going to bring more threats from Sound Trucks inc.

But, having said that, the use of "Die white pork" shot has a nice ring to it. A little more class than your usual, dull racial slams. I wonder it the author of that threat might not be someone from this board?
hmmmmm?

Threats and diction

Postby L S » Thu Aug 23, 2007 2:09 pm

I like the "die white pork" thing. It is a nice, amusing threat, but isn't it repetitive to say "white" and "pork" together? After all, shouldn't proper diction be considered when making threats in defense of the Royal family?

Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

Tak, you better watch out, The Shirobuta Liberation Front is watching you.

Our mission is to liberate the Japanese female by repeatedly bringing her to orgasm. All Shirobutas have special training in these climactic endevors.

A proud nationalistic japanese man.
I think it is a good thing. I wish the young Japanese kids would stop dying their hair and pretending to be American.

I wish young Americans would be more nationalistic. I get disgusted by the America bashing on some of these boards.

Ha ha. Funny. In the middle of the video, a large goony-looking sidekick appears to be gesturing at what looks like a heckler and later chases after him but is stopped by a middle-aged bystander.

I read one of Yuko Tojo's supporters did a similar thing. He punched a handicapped heckler in the back of the head and ran off. Anyone have a clip of that one?

Not exactly. The heckler was with a handicapped person. But in truth the entire group of three seemed to have disabilities of some kind. That whole incident really pissed me off.

Yes. Here's what I wrote:
Such ideas do not go unchallenged. At a campaign speech last month outside Shinjuku Station, Tojo, who was speaking about the importance of visiting Yasukuni, began to be heckled by a non-Japanese, Asian gentleman who was accompanied by a person in a wheelchair and a woman. When the protester had turned his back to the gathered crowd, one of Tojo's supporters rushed him, plunging a forearm between his shoulder blades, and cowardly scampered into a department store.

Has Iris Chang's "The Rape of Nanking" ever been published in a Japanese translation? I recall similar threats when a translation was being contemplated and the publisher chickening out.

Not a whole lotta straws to grasp at regarding this subject, Take. Your peeps behaved very badly 70 years ago. Just accept that it happened. Just remember that extreme right wing-ism is a sure sign of being chronically sexually frustrated and/or erectile dysfunction. Extreme left wing-ism is a sign of golfball-sized hemmorhoids. Maybe I have the two confused. Suffering from both? See a doctor.

Yeah, I was afraid my mentioning Chang's book would result in tedious off-topic posts about the veracity of said book. I was simply citing it as an example of successful intimidation by, uh, special interests in preventing the publishing of a book.

Times: Tabloids turn against the Crown Princess Masako
They are grainy, indistinct photographs, but for a Japan on the edge of recession they are more than enough: a pricey Mexican dinner, a plate of rare black truffles and a bowl of shark-fin soup have unleashed an unprecedented media broadside against the future Empress of Japan. After years of careful, respectful restraint, the Japanese press have turned on Crown Princess Masako: sympathy has turned to condemnation and tolerance has become attack...more...
