I have found Yasukuni Jinja fun place to strike up a conversation with the old vets. At this time of year with the falling cherry blossoms quoting a little indirect haiku can go a loooong way in getting the old farts to open up.

The above aircraft labled "(suicide bomb)" was called the BAKA Bomb aka, "MXY7 Ohka Cherry Blossom" ...a piloted rocket propelled plane with 500lbs. of explosives.

The "Oka"/"Ohka" ---"cherry blossom", in referenceto death being like cherry blossoms falling from their trees... [their battle groups], were referred to as "Jinrai Butai" ("Divine Thunder Corps"), and their pilots referred to themselves as "thunder gods" -- another reference to that 1281 hurricane, the kamikaze.

I recently visited the Yushukan museum at Yasukuni Jinja for the first time. It's definitely worth a trip if you haven't been there before.

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi pledged Wednesday to continue visiting Yasukuni Shrine despite a court ruling earlier in the day that defined his visits there as unconstitutional.
He told reporters he thinks the ruling is "irrational" and "does not understand" why his visits there, conducted every year since he took office in April 2001, are unconstitutional.
