Anyway, explain to me the difference between a goal and a behind (are you serious?) so I can follow along.

A goal is 6 points. A behind is 1 point.

Its a bit like rugby has trys and conversions.

Granted, it all must be a little confusing for a helmet wearer

Congrats!

kusai Jijii,
Congrats on the result tonight. How good is Buckley? The win could be a poisoned chalice, though...Gellong is going to be tough.
Still, it'll be fun to see the match-up between the two perennial grand final losers to see which one will gag in the big one again!! :)

Even though I'm a diehard Tiger, I've unfortunately got to agree with you on this one. Though a borderline champ, thrroughout his career Richo has been not-enough-deliver and too-much-"Deliverance" for my liking.

Morning Marvin,
I tell ya, that game was one for the history books, and was an irrefutable confirmation for me as to why AFL is the greatest code on the planet.
Buckley stood up when it counted, and Rocca again showed - despite his critics - that he can be there when it counts in September.
Geelong are a good outfit, thats for sure. But I cant have it that they are going to just stroll through the finals and snatch the flag. September is September, and history has proven that not much goes as forcast in finals footy. Its 22 against 22, and I'd give (despite my bias) the Pies a pretty good show at rolling the Cats. It is gunna be a rippa next Friday night. Recon they'll get well in excess of 80,000 at the MCG.
And as they say, its gotta be good for football!
Go Pies!

Good luck mate! I don't fancy your chances much, but being coached by a former Tiger from the Hafey days, I reckon the Pies will show plenty of guts (a la last week!).

Geez, commiserations. That was a brilliant effort. And one the Pies should be proud of. Who would have thought in March that Collingwood would have been within a kick of the grand final?
I'm sure you'd be feeling a bit down now, but you guys were really brave.
And that comes from a lifelong Collingwood hater. The Pies' loss did save me a moral dilemma. I would have loved to have seen them get up, but it is really hard for me to barrack for Collingwood to get a place in the GF (I wouldn't mind if I was guaranteed they would lose again for sure!!!)

Now, I just hope the Cats don't choke again. Came bloody close tonight.

Thanks Marvin.
As they say, "its gotta be good for football"! I thought they were galant. I just hope they dont loose sight of the big picture by trading 2 or 3 of our up-n-comers for Judd. Anyway, I'm proud of my boys. They pushed the envelope. They dared to dream. Its just that they fell a bee's dick short of the mark this time. I'm already looking forward to Season '08. That's wha makes footy so fucking great, eh?

They were truly fantastic, right through the finals: Week 1, underdogs against Sydney and win. Week 2: underdogs against West Coast, playing in Perth, and win. Week 3: Up against the shortest price flag favorite in years, they're coming off a week's rest and 100-plus point thrashing of the fourth-best team in the league and come within seconds of one of the biggest boilovers in history. Even a Pie-hater like myself has got to admire that. I must admit, I also fancied the idea of a Collingwood-Port GF -- the two greatest clubs in the history of the game, both of them best known for their mongrel qualities, playing off in the decider. Would have been a beauty!

I'm sure whoever gets Judd is gonna get burned. Sure, he's a great, but he's had other greats around him for a long time. He's not gonna be as good without them. (Sour grapes here, because he doesn't even want to talk with the Tiges!!)

A dual maggie grand final would have been great. Don't know who to follow next week.
Think I'll go for Geelong, if only for the fact that their captain is an ex Port player (1 game only) and would be a great salute to the ex club, but you'd think that after 67 years of playing at Kardinia Park they would have cut all the ugly trees down by now. The supporters only get hit by them every couple of weeks, but the players get slapped at least three times a week.

Same deal for the next day for the NRL finals.

But again you need to be a member of the ANZCCJ or the Australia Society. Australia society is cheaper at ¥3,000 a year and is just a social club. The ANZCCJ is more of a business group and is around ¥25,000 a year.

Aus society ad is below:

Footy Finals Time

Australia Society members have been invited by the Australian Embassy Social Club to participate in the grand finals of the Aussie Rules Football and Rugby League seasons.

Details:
AFL - bounce down at 1.30 pm Japan time Saturday 29 September. Doors open at 12.30 pm
NRL - kickoff at 6 pm Japan time Sunday 30 September. Doors open 5 pm

1500 yen includes a pie and beer. For security reasons, names need to be confirmed by Thursday Sept 27th to president@australiasocietytokyo.com

Unfortunately, I've gotta work on Saturday afternoon. I'll be with a rapid Geelong supporter who's absolutely dying to watch the game.
Anybody know a pay-per-view site where we can buy just Saturday's game? (The AFL site wants payment for the whole year)

Its all set to be a great game. Hard to say who will win it. Collingwood exposed the kinks in the Cats armour last week, and so Geelong are going to have to hold it together if they are to get over the line.
In my opinion, it all boils down to this:
Geelong will win it as long as Mooney doesnt 'loose it' (which I wouldnt be surprised if he does). Port's plan will be to have someone get on Moooney, get in his head and set him off.
Having said that, Geelong are not an east team to physically intimidate. They have plenty of blokes who can dish it out. If there are not multiple reports and suspensions form this game I will be very surprised.
Lets hope for a spectical!
My heart is with Geelong, but they may very well "do a Chocca" and choke.
