sleeping to the north? (now mystery solved)

hi all i need to know the following thing, is there anything against sleeping with the head in north position in japan, my wife says it means something about death, and is not good at all sleeping in north position i otherwise think its better, please advice.

Your wife is right. When they wake(tsuya) people here the always point the dead body with the head to the north. I was told all hotels are very careful about which direction the head of the bed is pointing.

yeah, it's considered taboo here as i found out when working out the layout for my son's room. typically the head is facing north for wakes / funerals etc..

i'm rather lacking in superstition so was completely unaware of such things until five years ago when i showed the layout of my new son's room to my mother-in-law who almost ended up facing north herself.. hmm.. i mighta been on to something there..

thx for the info guys, so okok my wife was right, she belives that crap, i otherwise read many studies which scientiffically explain that sleeping north/south makes more sense then east/west.

I love to horrify Japanese folks with my sakasama-da-na! opinion. Ideally most native American peoples ALWAYS must sleep with their heard pointing north and have done so since their birth in order to "learn" a feeling of north so they don't become lost in the wilderness.:twisted:

I presume that is Magnetic North, not True North.
