Nakao "Kiss" Yoshihiro kissed Heath Herring at a K-1 event in Osaka, so I'm not sure what that has to do with "crazy" Japanese behavior overseas. And Japanese fighters don't get outclassed all the time. True, there aren't a lot of great Japanese heavy weights, but there are some great fighters at the lighter weights.

Yeah I'm 5....good one. Ok maybe not overseas but whacky nonetheless. Japanese act silly who kisses another fighter? This fruit Nakamura pulled some stunts during weigh ins then entered the ring with an umbrella in his hand and wouldn't let go of it. He's a wacky loser but it doesn't matter 9 times ouf of 10 in the UFC they get fucking annihilated. Pride sucks because the Japanese get way to involved. Two men fighting doesn't need a referee stopping the fight and moving it and they certainly don't need a gaggle of limp dicks rushing to the side of the ring holding onto the fighters.

Most real fighters I know far preferred Pride to UFC. The match ups in Pride were much better than UFC. You really don't know much about MMA, so please stop commenting.

Unfortunately, there's a good chance that Pride is dead since the UFC bought it out for video rights and seems to have no desire to put on shows outside the US on a regular basis, despite claims to the contrary. At least that's the word around the ring-side water cooler.

While I am no expert on MMA I have been watching for a few years and thoroughly enjoy the sport. I do have my opinions and are entitled to them just like MMA snobs have theirs. What do you like most about Pride? I would say most people in the U.S. prefer Pride because its Japanese and its different. The Japanese prefer Pride for obvious reasons. How do they even compare the two? OCTAGON>RING the UFC has way less stoppages of fights and for me at least its more fun to watch. So far Pride fighters entering the UFC haven't done so great. The UFC is definitely promoting the sport outside the U.S. with several events held in London, and Belfast with more on the way. Are you a fighter? What ringside water cooler are you lurking around?

Pride definitely carries the heavyweight talent and the lightweight. Though I dig the intensity of the UFC rounds - 5min rounds put the fighters under pressure to really perform. In Pride, they tend to dog a bit and I find it a little boring - especially if the fighters aren't very technical and just ground hogging. Overall hard to compare - I dont think there is any real 'national preference' since the main attraction in these sports are the heavy bouts - and the talent comes from everywhere. Pride just pays alot more (in Japan) for them.

I love MMA, and I'd prefer the UFC format with Pride talent.

That sounds about right, as long as they allow kicking a man when he's down like Pride.

Fair enough as long as elbows are allowed as well.

Yeah, I never understood why dropping a knee on the head of a downed man was OK, but you couldn't elbow a guy even standing.

I miss the rules of the origianl UFC: No biting, no eye gouging, no time limit, no judges.

Couture stuns MMA world with retirement

With little interest at age 44 of fighting anyone other than the man regarded as the best mixed martial artist in the world, UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture announced his retirement Thursday.

Couture, a five-time champion and UFC Hall of Famer, had hoped to land a bout with Fedor Emelianenko, the top-rated fighter in the Yahoo! Sports MMA poll of the world's best fighters.

But when reports surfaced Wednesday that Emelianenko had spurned the UFC to sign with the Russian-based M-1 Mix Fight organization, Couture opted to retire.
