I do wonder where the "Taxi Driver" shot came from. I doubt this is the arrest photo. (Are there mug shots in Japan?) And he's not on the loose so it's not as if the police needed to get a photo from family or friends to track him down.

It's been awhile, but at this moment, I am very proud to be an American. I'm definitely wearing my George Bush 69ing with Osama Bin Laden shirt tomorrow with major patriotic pride.

British man arrested on suspicion of killing Yokohama woman

Here's the Mainichi story from Friday: Woman found dead in British man's apartment in Yokohama

The Japanese export high-tech goods, the British export football hooligans and violent chavs.

Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

C'mon SJ, keep up with the times! Tight ribbed t-shirts were so late '90s...now it's distressed semi-fitted graphic t-shirts... ;)

Kyodo: British man denies killing woman in Yokohama
A 34-year-old British national denied Friday at a court session killing a 25-year-old woman who lived with him and was found dead at their apartment in Yokohama in late September. Paul Jason Simmon, the suspect in the murder of Shoko Kawanobe, has been detained since police arrested him Sept 30. He is suspected of strangling Kawanobe in their apartment early in the morning of Sept 27, according to investigations. He also denied the charge after his arrest.

I knew her...didn't realise until a colleague pointed it out.

She was a student at our university. She dropped out after meeting this bloke and got pregnant. My mate and I used to see her in the street and after a while she started blanking us.

Obviously we were dead worried - until her mum came over, grabbed her and took her back to Japan.

Apparently he did the mohawk after the murder....

Bloody hell. He's from my hometown which has the highest murder/crime rate in England (nothing to do with me, I hasten to add).

Fuck, I was gobsmacked when me mate told me this morning.

BBC: Man strangled girlfriend in Japan
A man from Greater Manchester has been sentenced to 13 years in jail after he was found guilty of murdering his Japanese girlfriend. Paul Shimmin, 35, from Bolton, strangled Shoko Kawanobe at their apartment in Yokohama, Japan in September 2007. He was sentenced at Yokohama District Court after a trial. He has been imprisoned in Japan. A foreign office spokesman said he had chosen not to appeal the verdict.

"A foreign office spokesman said he had chosen not to appeal the verdict."

Yeah, I'd imagine he chose not to appeal like a mofo. Thirteen years for murder, while another lumpen limey, Nick Baker, got 14 years for drug smuggling.
