Policeman shot in butt with own gun while battling porn vending machine bandits

TAGAWA, Fukuoka -- A police officer is in a serious condition after being shot in the buttocks with his own pistol while scuffling with porno vending machine thieves here Friday, police said.

The 29-year-old sergeant from Tagawa Police Station is being treated for the wound to his buttocks.

Two men have been arrested for robbery resulting in injury in connection with the case.

I wish I could remember where this occurred, but I recall reading in the news many years back about a man who charged into a police station with a knife and managed to stab three officers. One cop, according to the article, had the presence of mind to draw his firearm, which he then threw at the attacker.

Maybe some enterprising FG should start a firearms 101 course for J-cops: "What Your Weapon Is For, And Which End the Bullets Come Out."

Maybe the guy who threw the gun at the assailant owed serious money to the stabbed officers, and he was just trying to help the assailant assist in eliminating his financial problems? If I was in this situation, I would probably due the same. The J-courts gotta know that a J-cop has no clue what his/her(?) firearm is used for, other than to hammer nails into the wall or open walnuts on his/her (?) desk, so no one would be suspicious.

I would have to wonder about that gun throwing story. Sounds like urban legend. Cops here use lanyards on their guns, and have for quite some time, IIUC.

The police tried to restrain two men they found in a car near the scene. One, Akira Uranaka, 29, of Kama in the prefecture and a member of the Taishu-kai crime syndicate, tried to escape, but was caught by an officer about 40 meters away. The other, unemployed Masamichi Oda, 21, of Tagawa, tried to break free when being held by the other two officers, grabbed the 29-year-old sergeant's gun from his holster and shot him.
