NZ imports Japanese 2nd hand cars. Everyone refers to them as "Jap Imports". There is no WWII connotation whatsoever. There is a negative connotation, but you get that with all used car dealers.

Jap is a natural abbreviation of Japanese. It may have evil connotations, but these connotations CAN change over time. Just look at the word "gay".
