Batting centre in Tokyo

Postby tidbits » Thu Apr 24, 2003 7:30 pm

Anyone know any batting centre in Tokyo? I know there are 2 in Kabikicho area, but seems like these are the only 2 available.

Northeast side of Shibuya on Meji Dori across from the undertracks parking garage is Tokyo's oddest batting center ... the place has green-hair girls in miniskirts taking their cuts at the slowest machine, 80 KPH without helmets. Scary. Hint: start slow and work up to 100 KPH. and don't do a slammin' Sammy Sossa like me.

In the off-season go to Jingu-Gaien in Shibuya-Ku-- there's a batting center (and even golf driving range).

Tokyo Dome City has a BATTING CENTER on the 5th floor (SUIDOBASHI Station).

Normally during Golden Week the Major League Baseball All-Stars play at Tokyo Dome and there's free fan contests using the pro batting practice machines and radar speed guns. Damn SARS caused this to be canceled (normally there's a BUNCH of free tickets floating around for F-gaijin).

:) I used to play softball long ago.. although not good at it but I enjoy the game very much. For softball- the size of the ball is bigger, the field is smaller and way we pitch is diffrent, which make it easier than baseball, but the other rules are the same, if I am not wrong . :)

 I blame the machine (at Kabukicho) for giving me too many foul balls, (actually I was not able to hit many even at the slowest ones- 70kph) , therefore I am looking for new places..

My FG sales manager LOooooVES to swing at 'em...I just pray and bunt. I get dragged along with him to be a target of the dread 120 kph pitching machine after drinking all night with clients.

If you find a good one around this area, I will come to hit a few with you.. I used to play softball too..

I know there is a driving range a few meters from my place, but this has never interested me..

The one at Jingu is a little expensive, as I remember, but it is a good one. You get to pick which pitcher will be throwing. Matsuzaka is an option. The delivery of the pitch and the image of the pitcher's windup don't match too well. But seriously, the curveballs (if chosen) are at the level of Doc Gooden in his prime - just unhittable.

Sadly, I broke my hand in a game this past weekend and I'll be out of action for a while.

Sorry to hear that, Captain J. I wish you speedy recovery.

Thanks for the info. Went to the Tokyo Dome. It is quiet nice..same like Jingu, you get to choose the pitcher.. You can pratise toss batting and pitching there too. They also have table tennis, tennis, darts & basketball there. Definately a better place than Kabukicho.

Tina--

This is a belated post, but there is a batting cage/bowling alley/billiard hall next to Ebisu station if you want to swing at baseballs. Just go out the West exit, make a left turn on the opposite side of the traffic rotary, and go up the hill for two minutes.
