You got that one right. If it's true, all bets are off. I'll be making the biggest stink I can about it.

Oh, and AO, to cut to the chase about your theory that the J-Gov orchestrated the collapse of Nova to get rid of foreigners in Japan, you are completely fucked in the head. Stay off the drugs. No offense buddy. :smashpc:

People thought Copernicus and Galileo were screwed up in the head too.

It's a possibility. Unlikely and highly improbable sure, but it is still possible.

I think stuff up and throw out ideas. If I'm wrong, I have no problem admitting an error.

If you can put your name up as an equal to Copernicus and Galileo then I will be a lot less smug. I wish you luck.

With respect AO, no it aint. It aint even remotely possible.

Consider my alternative "theory" AO. Here we go...

Governments (say Japan for example) have things called immigration policies. Such policies are subject to social, political, and economic forces, so these policies change from time to time. Say, for example, that there is a labour shortage (as was the case, say in Japan in the late '80s - early 90's with respect to the so-called 3K jobs). In such instances, the government issues more visas to intending immigants (e.g. to the so-called 'nikkeijin' in the afore mentioned example). When that need is filled, fewer visas are issued. Governments dont (as a general rule of thumb) sit around scheming about plots to send firms that employ foreigners bankrupt. They dont have to. Because they have immigration policies.

Does that sound possible or plausable to you?;)

Of course it does, but you know as well as I do that people don't always act rationally or legally.

But i'm sure someone thought about it.

It's not ready yet. When it is, I'll let you guys know.

Basically, I'm writing a scifi novel. But the more I build the science in the book, the more right it seems. That has branched off into physics studies. (I wanted to be a physicist at one point)

Anyway. It's only an idea at this point, but in my head it works, I've got to prove it works mathematically.

Sure thing. I know I'm way out in the bullpen on this one, but I don't trust government to always act rationally because governments are made up of people.

According to the article the teachers can remain in their apts, and receive money until they find another job. It doesn't say how long they will receive the money, or is it available to all, but there does seem to be some kind of assistance for them. Has anybody else heard or read this. I know kusai jiji won't be happy with this news.

That sounds strange to me. Most of the apartments the teachers were living in were owned by private landlords with no affiliation with NOVA. Did the gov't just force them to put up with non-paying tenants (that's sure going to make finding landlords willing to rent to foreigners easier for the rest of us), or is the rent and salary just going to come out of our taxes?

What's up with G-communications

Postby canman » Tue Nov 13, 2007 1:00 pm

I just read that they have hired some 1700 foreign teachers to work in their schools. But didn't they say they were only gong to open 30 schools now, and then open more a little at a time. So they are going to pay these 1700 teachers Y250 000 to sit around and wait for their old Nova school to open. Something doesn't seem right here. Is this where there could be some kind of gov't assistance so this whole embarrasing situation dies quickly. Because frm a business point of view, there is no way that a company could take on that many new employess, pay their salaries, and only have 25% of nova's costs paid by the students. I just can't see it.

Maybe G-comm needs something in the loss column to balance things out? Perhaps someone at G-comm thought that this would be great PR and loads of free advertizing....that person will probably be canned soon.

I was thinking about this a bit tonight, and I think this is what they are doing.

They are trying to project the image that everything is fine with NOVA and that it will soon be "business as usual". No more financial worries, everything is okay...

They absolutely must convince students to return, both past NOVA students who will pay the 25% and new or renewing students who will be paying the full amount for new contracts.

If it works they will probably be fine. (As fine as any large eikaiwa, anyway.) If it doesn't then I can't see them lasting more than half a year before "G" pulls the plug. They're a small M&A company, if they can't get NOVA turned around reasonably quickly they aren't going to have more cash to pump in.

.[floatr]Image[/floatr]Mainichi Exclusive:Ex-President Sahashi claims he is victim of NOVA crash
Ousted NOVA Corp. President Nozomu Sahashi told the Sunday Mainichi in an exclusive interview -- the first he has given since the collapse of the English conversation chain -- that "before I apologize to everybody, I want to get NOVA back on its feet."
...."I'm being set up as the bad guy," he says...
...Sahashi spoke during sessions conducted at a Tokyo hotel on Nov. 14 and 15. We asked Sahashi if we could take photos, but he steadfastly refused, saying, "I don't know what face I should put on before the camera."...more...

Will Work for Food

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Fri Dec 07, 2007 12:11 am

I just came across this in the latest The Small Print in Metropolis.

In a related development, a union representing former Nova teachers launched a program where students could get language lessons by buying instructors food instead of paying tuition fees.

There was a mention of them planning that earlier in the thread. Took them a month to get around to it I guess.

any of them have PETA freaks ranting.....

Mary Kate and Ashley began their careers playing the nauseating baby on Full House and went on to be nauseating in their own right as the no-talent fur hags who are always ready to be the butt of a joke when the gossip press is looking for a punchline. In 2006, Ashley reached the pinnacle of her career by being singled out on PETA's annual Worst Dressed List with the comment: "Wearing fur does add 20 pounds, but if Ashley wants to fill out her frame, we suggest using a fork instead." Inspired by Ashley's achievement and, as usual, completely failing to grasp the point, the twins are condemning a new generation of animals to death this year for their aptly titled fashion label, The Row. Now that the terrible twins have finally reached the legal drinking age, the world is waiting with bated breath to see what they'll do next. Happy Birthday, the Olsen Twins. You guys really freak me out.
