Postby Taro Toporific » Sun Apr 27, 2003 1:26 pm

ImageAsteroid named after Giants comic
Yomiuri Shimbun / April 27
An asteroid discovered in 1994 by an amateur astronomer has been nicknamed Tokyogiants after a popular classic comic that featured the Yomiuri Giants, a pro baseball team.

Any chance that asteroid will smash into Tokyo Dome? (I'm a Hanshin fan myself...) ;)

You from Osaka cst? I never understood the notion of supporting a team in another town unless you come from there. Londoners supporting Man Utd is an example that springs to mind.

With my total lack of baseball knowledge, I've finally decided on a team. Watching Yakult beat the Giants in the last innings last week coming back from 6-2 to win 8-6 sealed the decision. It's even made a baseball fan out of me (before then a totally foreign sport to me). Pity the TV coverage decided to cut the game short by one out.

With Japanese baseball, you can watch all of the games anywhere... so locality isn't as big a deal as it would be for baseball in the U.S.

I'm a Hanshin fan by association... my wife and her two brothers are fans, so I just picked it up... I dislike Tokyo for three reasons:
    I dislike Kiyohara
Matsui left (the only saving grace for Tokyo)
Hoshino is very entertaining... especially when he's pissed off

If you don't have cable I thought you can only watch 1/5 games anywhere (i.e. when your team plays the Giants). Must be tough if you support a team in the Pacific league.

There's always the option of going to a game, something I 'll get around to doing sometime (still amazed at the sheer number of games they play in this sport)... hey! a drinking event that I can drag the FG 2yr old along to. :D
