Yeah - there are terrorists in Japan...
Most of them are Japanese though.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

The only thing to do is stick him in a cell way underground and get busy with the "interrogation tactics" until he divulges exactly where these terrorists are located.
I have a blog. Last update: August 18, 2013.

Well, you gotta admit, he picks a point that is literally impossible to disprove. I mean, can anyone prove that there are absolutely NO terrorists in Japan? Somewhere, Joe McCarthy is smiling.

Yes indeedy. IIRC, the closest Al "Randy" Quaida came to getting a foothold in Japan was that French convert to islam who was working as a used-car exporter in Niigata. He apparently had purchased a keitai or three from some hapless Bangladeshi dealer near Yokohama. The Bangladeshi guy was the victim of some heavy-duty McCarthyism before he was cleared. I think he later sued. The French guy was deported.

They probably wouldn't have noticed the French dude, if somebody hadn't have stumbled on a wanted flyer for him from Interpol for some minor offense in another country. I think was murder without a valid license, or something like that. But, I don't think he collected butterflies, but that also doesn't mean he might not have been a bit light in the loafers.

Mainichi: Hatoyama maintains 'Al Qaeda buddy' statements are 'all true'
Justice Minister Yukio Hatoyama caused ripples again over the weekend when he told a gathering here that "all my statements about public safety have been totally devoid of lies." Among Hatoyama's recent statements have been the claim that he was warned about a terrorist threat to Japan "from a friend of a friend who is in al-Qaida." Uproar greeted that claim made by Hatoyama at a news conference he gave to the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan. Following outcry from a group of bereaved relatives of terror victims, Hatoyama issued a written apology. However, having told the Kurume gathering that he had "told no lies," the Justice Minister appears likely to come in for flak again.

Celebrity uses fingerprint photo-op to call for cut in foreign crime
NARITA -- TV celebrity Kazutomo Miyamoto urged immigration officials during a photo-op to use a new process to fingerprint inbound foreigners to fight foreign crime, not terrorism as the government claims the system will be used for.
"I think it'd be best if we could cut the amount of crime foreigners are committing and make Japan a safer place," Miyamoto said at Narita Airport, where he was serving as the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau Chief For a Day as a promotional event for the fingerprinting process.

Article goes on to say...

"Japanese nationals will be able to pass through Immigration via an automated gate instead of waiting in line to be processed by officials if they have applied for permission and submitted fingerprints in advance."

I have an idea that will likely never take off but is somewhat interesting none-the-less.

Perhaps all gaijin in Japan should start wearing these as a form of protest:

Starting from Nov. 20, Japan will follow the United States to become the second country in the world to implement individual recognition software for foreigners entering and leaving the country.

With the new system, nearly all foreigners will have to have fingerprints from both hands and a picture of their face recorded. Fingerprints will be verified with a list in what the government says will be an attempt to prevent terrorists or known criminals from entering Japan.

Japanese nationals will be able to pass through Immigration via an automated gate instead of waiting in line to be processed by officials if they have applied for permission and submitted fingerprints in advance.

Miyamoto, 43, was once a pitcher for the Yomiuri Giants.

Perhaps that shithead aught to stick to running his flappers on TV about J-crap rather than trying to reduce crimes committed by foreigners. I think this whole terrorism shit, even in America or wherever is a load of kangaroo poo. It's just a scam on the people to make them feel safer while shoving the old "security" dong right up their civil liberty rectum.

Fuck the fingerprints!

We need a T-shirt that states that in hundreds of languages with a big old middle finger popping up on both sides.

100% Agreed.

I mean, what does he know about foreign crime? Or crime period? He's a celebrity and how often does a celeb even come in contact with the criminal element if they aren't doing something criminal themselves.

"Automated" Gates and You -“Welcome to a world of convenience”. (authorized by the Ministry of Justice, Immigration Bureau, Japan)

In order to improve convenience of immigration procedures by simplifying and accelerating them just follow these basic steps:

1. Take your valid passport (including Re-entry Permit) and re-entry permission and Automated Gate Application form to the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau Application Counter for re-entry permission (2F) 9:00-16:00 (Except Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays and December 29th to January 3rd) or the Narita Airport District Immigration Office.

2. Submit your application form with your passport and provide fingerprints of both index fingers and a facial portrait and the official will affix a registration stamp on your passport, the registration procedure is complete. In principle, you can use the gate from that day forward (unless its broken, in which case you’ll have to use the visitor’s line anyway. N.B. It may be broken when flights come in from the middle east, asia, and parts of Europe).

3. Bear in mind that you can only register until the expiration date of your passport or the expiration date of your re-entry permit, whichever comes earlier.

4. In some cases, such as when you cannot provide fingerprints, you may not be able to register.

5. We will manage information including fingerprints and facial portraits provided at the registration as personal information set forth in laws on protection of personal information held by administrative agencies, and the information will not be used or provided beyond the range allowed for in these laws. (Plainspeak- we will use it any way we want).

6. When you arrive at the airport, step forward before the immigration officer and place your passport over the Passport Reader. After being recognized as a registrant, provide your fingerprints and facial portrait again. Then, submit your passport and ED card to the immigration officer. After checking, the gate will open.

7. When you are departing Japan, step forward before the immigration officer and place your passport over the Passport Reader. After being recognized as a registrant, provide your fingerprints. Then, submit your passport and ED card to the immigration officer. After checking, the gate will open. Departure inspection procedures are now complete.

8. When you use the automated gate, as a rule, the entry/departure record (a stamp) will not be left on your passport. So if you need to have a stamp, better use the tourists queue. Thanks!

“Auto”
- a combining form meaning “self”.

“Mate”
- to copulate, or fuck.

From which we obtain the word "Automate" meaning "fuck yourself".

Everytime they meet their agent, or backers!

But, isn't this pretty typical everywhere of celeb's trying to be political. They must make a statement! The fact that they haven't got the slightest clue about what they are talking about, is inconsequential. They think that since they are stars, this gives them the authority to lead we, of the soiled, unwashed masses away from going astray.

In that industry, it is normally only the ones who do not have these sort of press releases, or hold such conferences that have their heads screwed on right.

The image there forgets to mention "wife who's boring in bed"

Not to derail the erectile disfunction discussion, but the whole "ED Card" thing really irks me. Being a translator this something I run across all the time in my work. Why do the Japanese feel the need to arbitrarily abbreviate things on official documents, with no explanation of the abbreviation anywhere?

There's practically no mention of those little white bastards they staple into your passport as "ED Cards" on any government website (or on the cards themselves for that matter).

This article is absolutely hopeless. It attempts to bail out Hatoyama by mentioning Dumont but then it runs out of gas. As you read you keep thinking it will say that Hatoyama was talking about Dumont but it doesn't.
'Al-Qaida affiliate' entered Japan 6 times in 4 years
Gomiuri
After Justice Minister Kunio Hatoyama said at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan in October that a friend of a friend was a member of Al-Qaida who had entered Japan several times, the issue became a hot topic.

However, documented evidence exists of an alleged Al-Qaida-affiliate having repeatedly entered Japan in the past.

Frenchman Lionel Dumont, a senior member of a group linked to Al-Qaida, who was arrested in Germany in 2003 on suspicion of attempted bombing, entered Japan several times.

After receiving a report from Interpol, Japanese police authorities discovered that Dumont had entered Japan six times between 1999 and 2003 using a fake passport. He stayed in areas including Niigata Prefecture.

There are no domestic cases of a terrorist being apprehended during the immigration screening process, as it is difficult to spot a terrorist using a fake passport with only a short immigration check.

According to the Justice Ministry, there were about 200,000 foreigners staying illegally in Japan as of January.

About 56,000 foreigners were deported from Japan in 2006 for reasons including illegal stay, the Immigration Bureau said. About 7,300 of them had been deported from Japan before, and were theoretically banned from reentering the country. However, they somehow managed to return, likely using fake passports.

The government compiled an action plan in 2003 to create a society that can fight and prevent crime, and plans to cut the number of illegal residents to 125,000 by 2008, saying that many of those here illegally are associated with crime.

I’m going to co-operate 110% when I go through immigration in January. Not only will I provide them with the fingerprints and photo, but I’ll also leave a nice DNA sample on the Embarkation/Disembarkation card. I figure riding the whole flight back to Japan with the ED card firmly planted in my ass crack will be a little bit uncomfortable, but, in the interests of security, it will be well worth it. After all, those immigration counter guys don’t wear gloves (do they - I forget?).
