Woman donates 1 billion yen in cash to municipal government

MINAMIASHIGARA, Kanagawa -- An 88-year-old woman donated 1 billion yen in cash to the Minamiashigara Municipal Government on Friday, saying she hoped the money would benefit education.

The donation from 88-year-old Chizuko Yokomizo followed another 500 million yen donation she gave to the town of Oiso in December 1999.

Holy shit! Couldn't she find something better to do with all that cash? There must be dozens, if not hundreds, of charities and foundations that would be better.

stupid old biddy. of all the institutions to which i would consider giving any sum of my money voluntarily, a municipal government is probably rounding out the bottom of the list.. how could anyone be that fucking stupid..

no doubts it'll be put to good use lining the pockets of various beaurocrats who exist merely for the purpose of syphoning off public money to their own little trust funds.

there are any number of charities that could benefit from a direct donation, without globs of it sticking to the red tape at every level.
