Japan launches catch-and-eat drive to eliminate 'prince fish' nuisance
Mon Nov 26, 2007, TOKYO (AFP) ....Emperor Akihito, a fish expert, brought the bluegill from the United States a half-century ago when he was crown prince, hoping to offer a new source of food to Japan. But the bluegill, once celebrated as "prince fish," has turned into a nuisance in Japanese rivers and lakes by feeding on native species...Bluegill is common dinner fare in the United States and is the state fish of Illinois, where Chicago's legendary mayor Richard J. Daley offered the fish specimen as a gift to the visiting Akihito in 1960...more...

Hence the fingerprinting, if a gaisakana can do that much damage imagine what a gaijin can do.
I rest my case.

Actually, the bluegill is a apparently a very good fish to eat although some what boney and small in size. My resident rice cooker always downed a bunch of them every time we visited the mid-west and she swears by them as a great eating fish.

However, since a bluegill is a lake and small river fish, I'm not convinced that bluegill sashimi would be high on my list of "druthers"!

You're right boothie. I used to fish with gramps during my summer vacations back in Minnesooooota and we'd always end up catching some sort of trout or bluegill. Man, I still have nightmares of us going out after it rained heavily to get those huge worms (nightcrawlers he called them) to use for bait. :(
