
Asahi: Japan Mint selling New Zealand collectors' coins
Japan Mint on Wednesday started selling a silver proof coin for New Zealand's central bank in its first overseas order since the end of World War II. "Japan's technology has won recognition," a Japan Mint official in charge of the project said. The request to mint the Aoraki/ Mount Cook $1 silver proof coin came in 2005 from New Zealand Post, a company commissioned by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to procure coins for enthusiasts... After Japan Mint became an independent administrative agency in 2003, it was allowed to produce foreign currencies as long as the undertaking does not interfere with its primary role.
