[floatr]Image[/floatr]Yomiuri: Higashikokubaru urges return of conscription
Miyazaki Gov. Hideo Higashikokubaru said Wednesday that Japan should reintroduce conscription. Higashikokubaru made the remark at a roundtable talk with local citizens in Miyazaki. After the talk, he expanded on his comments for the press, saying, "I meant to say it would be useful for young Japanese to spend some time in an organization that would instill real discipline"...Higashikokubaru said, "I believe it's necessary for Japanese young people to spend one or two years in organizations such as the Self-Defense Forces."

I agree. Get every J-male aged between 18 and 35 and send them off to a remote part of the country for two years (at least) of training.

What?! :p
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

A much simpler solution would be to just reinstate the discipline standards and daily close-order drill at the junior and senior high level. The equipment is all there (albeit rusty and moth-eaten), they just need to use it...

They need to let the teachers start beating the kids again.

For the horrible, horrible year that I taught at elementary schools here, there were quite a number of kids who were really just begging for an ass-kicking to be set straight.

Mainichi: Miyazaki governor apologizes for calling for military draft system
The governor of Miyazaki Prefecture apologized on Tuesday for his earlier remarks calling for the reintroduction of a military draft system in Japan. "They were inappropriate. I will be more careful about my remarks from now on," Gov. Hideo Higashikokubaru said Tuesday...In response to the protest from SDP members at the prefectural assembly, the governor explained that he made the remarks "out of concern for a collapse of morals...It was inappropriate because my remarks went too far as an example," he added.

It's fairly hilarious that this guy is talking about morals anyway since he's been divorced and remarried several times, is a notorious drunk and has enough scandals under his belt (including paid sex with a minor) to put him up there with the best of the Japanese elite.
