Police Clamp Down On Karaoke Hustlers

[floatr][/floatr]ZAKZAK reports (Japanese) that police in Ikebukuro arrested a part-timer working for a nearby branch of the 747 karaoke chain for soliciting customers too aggressively. The laws on solicitation were tightened primarily to restrict the activities of people working for sex-related businesses. The report indicates that this is the first arrest anywhere in the country for a karaoke establishment. Police also arrested the manager of the branch who apparently explained that the quotas from head office were very tough to meet and so he had sanctioned the aggressive sales tactics. Police had received complaints about the nuisance caused by the staff and sent three plain clothes female officers along to investigate. They said the arrested part-timer crossed the road from thirty metres away to approach them and repeatedly asked "How about karaoke? I can do you a special deal of thirty minutes for one for 525 yen" while showing them a flyer.
