Japan to Control the Internets

Postby Doctor Stop » Thu Dec 06, 2007 11:21 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Japan to take steps to regulate the Internet

MDN

The government is set to regulate the Internet by integrating current laws concerning information, telecommunications and broadcasting, it was announced on Thursday.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications unveiled its plan to submit a bill to the regular Diet session in 2010 aimed at unifying the Telecommunications Business Law, the Broadcast Law and other relevant laws.

The move is aimed at paving the way for the government to regulate the contents on the Net, which has enormous influence on society.

The new legal measures could also affect the distribution of newspaper articles on the Internet.

Wow, everyday Japan is becoming more and more like China.
In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move - Douglas Adams

Well, let's say, "goodbye" to Yahoo and Google and all the other small things we use to take for granted, such as FREEDOM!:(
Soon, we`ll all get bullets in the back of the head if we speak out on human rights issues...just a matter of time.
Japan, axis of evil.....Naaaaaw!

It is only a matter of time before all governments do this. The one thing politicians/rulers fear is a free flow of information they cannot control.

Mmm... Tor. :)

So how will they go about this? Build a "Great Firewall"? Surely, that will make Japanese government look bad from the viewpoint of other democratic countries.

Also, this idea strikes me as not being about porn, as Asskissinger implies, but more as being about copyright infringement, considering the hysterical behaviour we have seen concerning Youtube, etc.

Not nice at all

Postby Guy Incognito » Sun Dec 09, 2007 8:26 am

If anyone discovers any mechanism through which we can petition against this happening, please let us know...Probably most of us here would have no ability to sign such a petition but it would be comforting at least to know that such a movement exists.

If nothing starts up soon enough I might just have to start it myself.

There needs to be an equivalent of thismovement in the U.S.

Oh if only there was some sort of international communications network where people could speak out against these problems.

If only.... but even if such a marvelous thing existed, I suppose there would need to be organization amongst its users as well...else all the people on this "network" just waste time by unnecessarily trolling eachother!
