What happened to bilingual broadcasting?

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Sun Dec 09, 2007 10:34 pm

I was just flipping through channels and noticed that Bad Boys 2 is playing on channel 5 and it's only in Japanese. Is it just me or does it seem like more and more foreign movies and shows are being broadcast without the original language option available? I don't have cable, so I'm just talking about standard broadcast TV.

WTF? I wonder if it's because I'm on a digital antenna now. I don't why they wouldn't include the bilingual in the digital broadcast though. I do still get bilingual news, so I know it's not that I don't know how to use my new TV.

Why do the black guys' voices (on the dub) sound ridiculous?

Not as ridiculous as this guy.

Just another data point: I'm on digital broadcast via cable. Both soundtracks were coming through just fine.

I wonder what it is then. Why would I still get NHK's bilingual news broadcast but not the other stuff? Very strange. Must have something to do with the way my TV is reading the signal.

Sounds normal to me. I've got uncles that talk that way. Some are from the south and most were drunk when they got to talking like that. Or had years of drinking and they all were older.

When you say ridiculous, do you mean the tone of voice (gravely like Redd Foxx) or the pronounciation?

I'm just fucking around. It's more the whole topic and presentation. Anyway that's Petey Greene and there is a movie coming out about him starring Don Cheadle.

That video is proof that one must be very careful about what one puts out into the world.

At the end of the video it says thousands showed up to his funeral in 1984 to pay respects, and now in 2007 it's safe to say the main thing this guy is known for is that one time he went to town on a watermelon on TV like he was starving to death.

Be careful with your life!
