That would be appear to be Hitomi and Lei Fang of Dead or Alive video game fame.

Not Japan but does fall under the category of Christmas madness I think.

Even the U.S. hasn't let PC get this crazy yet (have they?)

SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

I find this as stupid as the anti-religion Holiday PC in the US. How many kids of the age to still believe in Santa Clause know what a "HO" is?

How many adults would not even know until it was fired up in the press?

I'd forgotten about that nonsense. I haven't been back to the states for Christmas in years, so I haven't encountered the "Happy Holidays only" greetings yet.

It's all ridiculous. I think people actually work to be pissed off about everything all the time anymore.

"White Christmas" by transgender singer Ataru Nakamura, who will be appearing in NHK's Kohaku. I think I can hear some residual testosterone there when she begins to sing "Where the treetops glisten..."

Inventor powers Christmas tree with eel
Gadgets - MSNBC.com Dec. 13, 2007
TOKYO - Not even a blackout could put a damper on festivities at one Japanese aquarium where an electric eel is being used to light up its Christmas tree.
Two aluminum panels inside the eel's tank work as electrodes to catch its power. Cables attached to the panels supply the lights on the nearby tree with electricity.
Inventor Kazuhiko Minawa said it took him more than a month to devise a system that would effectively harness eel power...more...

I used to loooove that every year at Christmas, my company would put out two "Christmas" trees flanking the main entrance just for me since ostensibly I was the only Christian in the office. :hehe:

For some reason...the tree they placed for you is somewhat more carefully displayed....than the one from Tsukuba Center. ;)

Hahaha! just waiting for some 151 'lighting' I'd say... As one of the founding santas of santarchy - I can say without misgiving that Japan is clearly one of our santarchy failures in spite of numerous attempts to instill the true spirit of Xmas.. i.e.

a) They plan (Santa doesnt plan - Christmas is EVERY f*ng year)
b) They make lists (Santas dont make lists -- kids make lists)
c) They have a route (Santa doesnt have route , he has a root)
d) They use keitais (Santa uses reindeer)
e) They are drawn to lights (Santa flies away from lights)
f) They buy designer 'santa suits' (Santa wears what he/she has worn for 10yrs straight)
g) And last -- real Santas stopped doing Burning Man like 10 yrs ago.
See you in PyonPyang!

i just found this thread, and it made me remember a time at a wakayama flea market when i saw this skinny middle aged japanese guy wearing a ratty salvation-army rejected santa costume passing out fliers for this place:
HOTEL CHAPEL CHRISTMAS

needless to say i made it my first love hotel experience.. good memories.

Daily Mail: Animal activists' anger after aquarium puts Santa hats on whales
It's a scene that brings laughter and cheers from visitors to a Japanese aquarium - two white beluga whales wearing Santa hats. But environmentalists are saddened by the sight of what they say is the final humiliation for the whale in a country that hunts them down with harpoons. The beluga whales have been fitted out with the cute Santa hats to entertain the crowds at the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise on Yokohama Island...more...
