Robot Sommelier

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Dec 14, 2007 1:09 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Yomiuri: Japan serves up 1st robot sommelier
An anthropomorphic robot, jointly developed by Prof. Atsushi Hashimoto's team at Mie University and Osaka-based NEC System Technologies Ltd., has been recognized as the world's first robot sommelier by the 2008 Guinness World Records. The 40-centimeter-tall robot can determine the type of wine, and varieties of ingredient grapes, by holding a sensor built into its hand over the bottle. In developing the robot, Hashimoto, professor of Bioinformation and Food Engineering, and his team focused on how different ingredients in wine absorb infrared light at different wavelengths...The robot can determine such qualities as if the wine will taste sweet, and can "identify" different kinds of cheese and the ripeness of an apple.

More importantly, can it act snooty, be rude to customers and charge insane prices!

:hehe:

I did three wine tasting sessions in work last week and we had to spit it all out - but i was sneaky & downed the last couple of glasses from each session: it really speeds the day up :)
