Asahi: Mouse pad hurling event taking flight
Throwing computers across the office may not be the most practical way to release stress. But a new competition that young people in Nagoya have come up with might do the trick: mouse pad throwing. The Japan Mouse Pad Throwing Association hosts the World Mouse Pad Throwing Competitions for the truly dedicated. Scores are determined by distance, just like discus throwing. The association promotes the sport, and its ultimate goal is to get the event officially included in the Olympic Games. It all started in spring 2006, when Yasuhiro Matsunaga, 36, who produces radio programs, discovered a bounty of mouse pads lying in storage. The mouse pads had been giveaways used to promote a local radio station. "I was overcome with the mottainai spirit that nothing should go to waste. I thought hard to come up with ways to use the mouse pads other than in conjunction with a computer. Then it struck me that we could throw it, just like a Frisbee," Matsunaga said...more...

I thought this thread was going to be related to the new year of the rat..... oops. Nice marketing idea though for Christmas presents - that is if people used mouse pads anymore.
