This was on the TV news about a month ago... they put the mysterious markings down to door to door salesmen. Certain codes would be given to likely customers.

Not sure what code they've put on my apartment but the NHK man hasn't returned.

This was discussed at length on a morning show a couple of weeks ago. They are 'sales' markers put there by companies that canvass the area or bribe someone at the local town hall to get the demographics. They then sell the info and the markers to sales companies who can then better target their 'catch calls' or mailbox stuffers to who actually lives at that house.

I'm still going to hide my TV whenever there's a knock at the door!

Wonder how extensive the demographic info is. I've never received any Gaijin specific junk mail, but the amount of pink junk mail in my letterbox certainly dried up quite quickly after my wife arrived in the country.

That was probably me or Chisato checking Steve's mailbox.

I've just come back from the hospital and Steve's doing better today. He's got his own room and can pretty much go and come as he pleases within the grounds. He sends best regards to all but no 'wish you were here' type messages :D He's reading a lot.

The doctor thinks another week might do it.
