
Apparently, scandal sells when it comes to Hokkaido's most notorious cookie. Shiroi Koibito chocolate-filled thin cookies made by Ishiya Co., are flying off store shelves one month after the company resumed production following a three-month suspension over an embarrassing mislabeling scandal. Sales during the last month are three times the level of the same period last year... When 100 people who purchased the cookies at the airport were asked about their choice, 49 said they bought them because they were the talk of the town. Some said they thought that people back home would enjoy the cookie even more, given its scarcity due to suspended production.
