Either somebody at the Japan Times logged into their content management system after a little too much New Years' sake, or they know some things about Tokyo that I don't.

Kumiko wants to know what happened to a hair salon she used to go to near Hiroo Station in Tokyo. It was right by the JR subway station, up a flight of steps.

Ah, the little-known JR subway system. I believe the entrance is in a secret stairway in the back of National Azabu supermarket.

The salon, called Shinya, after owner Shinya Nakayama, has moved.It's right behind Daikanyama Station in the Inokashiro line out of Shibuya

It's not just the salon that moved. It seems the town of Daikanyama itself moved a few kilometers to get on the popular Inokashiro line (which changed its name from Inokashira). Daikanyama's old location on the Toyoko line is apparently being replaced with a new Disney theme park.

Wow, this salon is really mobile. Before they even finished the article, it's moved again from Daikanyama to Kaiikanyama!

The two columnists who take turns writing the Japan Times' Lifelines column - Angela Jeffs and Kenny Joseph Jr. - are pretty damned lame for so-called longtime expats in Japan. The quality of advice they provide is well below that of what one can find on most of the Japan-based online forums.

Plus, Kenny Joseph in particular seems to have a hard-on for abusing the column to refer business whenever possible to incompetent personal friends.

I believe the erudite Ms. Jeffs is referring to the Hiroo Station of "Tiger" Tanaka's formerly secret subway line, which was closed again to the public shortly following the breakup of JNR.
