Need List of J-Banks and Branches

Postby FG Lurker » Mon Jan 07, 2008 5:49 pm

I'm working on a small program and it would be helpful to have a list of Japanese banks and their branches. I don't need addresses or anything, just the names.

I have dug around looking for one but have not had any success. Does anyone know where I could get such a list?

Hhhmm.. This probably isn't much help, but wouldn't each bank's website have a 'branch list'? For example, Mitsui Sumitomo.

I'm hoping for something like the downloadable list of postal codes that you can get from the post office...A single file that has all the banks and branches listed. It's probably a pipe dream, but...

I am sure it exists, and furthermore, I'm sure it's available in some kind of electronic format that's updated regularly. All electronic furikomi needs this information (ever try to do a transfer to another bank online or at an ATM? Every branch of every bank, AFAIK, is selectable via navigation).

Unfortunately I have no idea where to get it. Any bank IT employees hanging around FG?

Yes, this is exactly what I am looking for. Logically it should be around somewhere but companies can be strange sometimes so the list may not be publicly available.

Could you do this by getting a list of swift codes? (I did a quick search but came up empty so really this is just a thought.)

Are you going to hit them all at the same time, or pick them off one-by one? ;-)
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

After scraping the data off those web pages and loading it into a database it turns out there are 621 banks/credit unions in Japan with a total of 23,922 branches.

(That doesn't include JA or JF either, I bet they would add quite a few branches on top.)
