Actually, Japan gets off far too easy. To quote the world's greatest mind, the Joker:

My least fave Movie about Japan

Postby GomiGirl » Tue May 13, 2003 12:54 pm

The Barbarian and the Geisha

Starring.. drum roll... John Wayne

In 1856, U.S. Counsel General Townsend Harris arrives in Japan, docked in the port of Shimoda, at a time when foreigners were not welcomed. Harris is testing a previous open-door agreement between the two nations, although Japan has no intention of going through with it. While international diplomacy moves at a snail's pace, a nobleman "gives" Harris a geisha, Okichi, to ease his boredom. Harris and Okichi develop a bond and she saves him from an assassination attempt.

Clip

Why do I dislike it.. mainly because the geisha was wearing her kimono so low it showed cleavage.. if they are going to make a movie using kimono, for goodness sake, do it properly.

Barbarian and Geisha

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Tue May 13, 2003 4:27 pm

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't a midget-giant combination beat the living shit out of the Duke in this movie?
Other great Japan films:
The Yakuza (Robert Mitchum)
You Only Live Twice
Sayonara (which got an Oscar for Chrissakes!)
And the daddy of them all (which was actually quite good)
The Toxic Avenger in Japan
(Sorry there's no links)

Hey GG. Thanks for that clip. Quite funny.

As for the movie Sayonara. I LOVED it. I've been looking for it
on DVD and video since I saw it played one late night on FEN.
