Chinese tourist assaulted Japanse who held a J-national flag and tried to worship to Yasukuni shrine. And this Chinese tore the J-flag and broke the flag's pole. This assailant is 王班並 at age 37, who were arrested by Koujimachi police office.
But a exective of police headquarter said "If Fukuda administration which has pro-Chinese diplomacy pressure us, we may have to release this dude".

China and Russia are just two of the reasons some people out there should wind their heads back in, I would think. Especially as the old US of A is currently heading towards a period where they will likely be too busy dealing with their own internal affairs to care too much about anybody else... Once that happens there will be interesting times ahead for Japan (and Taiwan), as the only thing holding China back from doing whatever the fuck they want at that time will be straight economics. Now, imagine at the same time China's unstoppable growth machine hits one of the walls made out of resource scarcity, political turmoil or intolerable pollution. There's something to think about.

hmm.. the whole chinese/korean/japanese nationalism thing is a bit much for me, and im never really sure where i stand on it.. honestly, i can see both sides; where china/korea feel japan has not given proper appologies and has refused to live up to their harsh militaristic past.. i can also feel, however, japanese people's frustration with neighboring countries telling them what to do... its a very fine ethical tightrope in my opinion.
the clincher for me, however, is not any high moral standard or what is 'wrong' and 'right' for japan to do, for me it comes down to 'smart' politics and 'dumb' politics.. and while i know that yasukuni is a very politically charged topic in japan, i think the international political importance of yasukuni far outweighs whatever benefit a PM or other japanese politician will get from a photo op there. bottom line is that i think it is very politically stupid for japan to piss off their neighbors, especially when their neighbors are going through economic and militaristic expansion.. and the ultra-nationalism exhibited at yasukuni is without a doubt pissing off their neighbors (well, at least the politicians and the (in one case, state-run) media)

having said that (however convoluted and nonsensical it was) i think what this dude did at yasukuni is pretty damned stupid.. i will stand up for anybody's right to say what they believe, but you give up that defence once you attack somebody else for believing something to the contrary.

its definitely a sticky subject with strong political as well as emotional implications, which is what makes it so difficult for me to really come to a clear conclusion on this problem.. it will definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out..
what does the japanese government usually do in cases like this?
if the police decide to, will he be held/charged in japan, or sent back to china?
i cant imagine a japanese jail being a real cozy place for a raging chinese nationalist..

I gotta agree with AK. This guy, for whatever his attentions, or desired results, were, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. He is guilty of an assault (to include a charge of being dumb in public with priors).

Hopefully, the government ding-a-lings in Japan will not intervene and let it proceed through the courts. A conviction in a legal open court proceeding would be much more desirable than the government intervening, deporting this guy and elevating this nothing case into one with political overtones. That would also give this dude hero status among his Chinese cohorts and with no retribution, definitely signal encouragement for similar actions in the future. It would further draw attention, as well as provide undeserved merit to the rightist as a legitimately wronged party. On the plus side, if were the Chinese dude to draw a prison term, it would probably be of great significance in curing any hemorrhoid disorders he might have.

I've been to Yasukuni.... I can't speak for the Chinese guy but for me it was for a large part the same reason you would go to watch the monkeys at a zoo.

Interesting... I finally got around to visiting the place when I friend came to visit Tokyo yesterday. Took these photos of these guys who were there to protest the the beijing olympics. Saw their car parked nearby and took some photos as well. After the prayed at the shrine and were walking to go eat some lunch was when I got my photo of them.

One of the Germans mentioned that if you don't know your history you will be doomed to repeat it. It was such a stark contrast to the sweep-it-under the rug approach of the Japanese.

Switching things up since we are on the topic of uyoku here, nothing pisses me off more than seeing these pieces of shiiet driving down the road screaming at 100 db while tens of hopeless and clueless policemen stand around watching. I was walking around with the little runt near the Chinese consulate and these idiots had the whole fucking street blocked off while the police just sat there and watched. The whole street was blocked off forcing cars to turn around and since my poor arse decided it would be a nice walk through Moto-Azabu, I was forced to hike my arse all the way back down through Roppongi Hills while my daughter screamed at the top of her lungs because these fuckers were soo goddamn loud and she figured she would not be outdone.
