Friday 25 January 2008
7 pm - late
Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Roppongi
black tie
Tickets: 28,000/30,000 yen
2008 Gala Ball ticket form

Celebrate Australia Day with a sumptuous meal, entertainment, dancing, and auctions of wine, travel and other goods. The Society's annual gala charity ball features all of these plus frock watching, midnight snacks, lucky door prizes, and goodie bags to take home.

Outback
For 2008, our attention turns to the beauty of the Australian bush. Our ball's theme is “Outback” and proceeds from the evening go to two environmental charities: Eco-Future, who undertake reforestation projects in Japan, and Aussie Helpers, who provide aid to drought stricken families across Australia.

Dinner music will be provided by Julianne. Dancing will follow dinner with the energetic music of Whooshka from Sydney.

Ticket Details
Ticket prices are 28,000 yen for members in good standing as of 13 November, and 30,000 yen for guests and non-members.

To purchase tickets, please complete the 2008 Gala Ball ticket form
and return via e-mail to balltickets@australiasocietytokyo.com After booking your tickets, pay by furikomi (bank transfer) within one week. Bookings not paid for within a week are not guaranteed and may be released to others. Tables booked should be paid in a lump sum. Ticket are non-refundable.

May I assume that this final statement is a spam disclaimer? At any rate, maybe we will be able to make it this year!

The other event was the BBQ at the Embassy. The ball only takes place once a year. If I ever feel the urge to put on a penguin suit, that's my top choice with Ireland's Emerald Ball a close second. The British event has always been a bit of a miserable affair but I haven't been for many years so it may have got better.

3 main events annually. BBQ in May, Melbourne Cup in November and Aus ball on Australia Day. Plus lots of family stuff throughout the year - Easter Party with yours truly as the Easter bunny in a furry costume... satisfies any furry fetishes that I may have. Plus lots of other stuff like kids sports days, ski trips, sausage sizzles and Christmas parties. Not bad for a volunteer group (registered NPO) with no paid employees and donating tens of millions of yen a year to charities.

That is a bit slow on the uptake, GG! I guess you've become desensitized to my perviness over the years. ;)
