Mainichi: 16-year-old arrested after refusing to pay 350,000 yen hostess club bill
NIIZA, Saitama -- A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for refusing to pay a bar tab of nearly 350,000 yen at an expensive cabaret club here, police said. The jobless youth of no fixed address, whose name is being withheld, is accused of fraud. He admitted to the allegations during questioning, according to investigators. The boy went to the cabaret club in Niiza alone late on Tuesday night, where he drank alcohol -- including a bottle of champagne worth tens of thousands of yen -- and ate expensive food over a five-hour period, local police said. His bill came to 348,000 yen, which he refused to pay. When he was arrested, he told officers that he was 22 years old. He subsequently turned out to be a minor. Cabaret clubs are a type of hostess bar, where customers pay for a hostess to accompany them while they drink.
