Kumi Koda Puts Her Foot In It

Postby Mulboyne » Sat Feb 02, 2008 8:52 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Kumi Koda has caused an internet storm. Asked on a Tokyo FM radio programme about her love life and whether she wanted children, she said she should probably have them before she was 35 because 「やっぱ、35(歳)ぐらいまわると、お母さんの羊水が腐ってくるんですね(笑)本当に(笑)」 or "When a woman gets to 35, her amniotic fluid turns rotten". She was laughing while speaking but Japan's netizens have been filling whatever forums they can find with outrage at the comments, accusing her of being insensitive. The storms of protest appear to be having an effect because the Sankei reports (Japanese) that cosmetics giant Kose has decided to suspend their Visee brand site "owing to current circumstances". Koda is the main image girl for the brand. The radio broadcast was on the 29th of January and was quickly picked up on 2 Channel, causing her to issue an apology yesterday on her home page, calling the comments "inappropriate". Nikkan Sports separately reports that her record label, Avex, has decided to pull some of the promotion and advertising for her new album "Kingdom" and a message to that effect is also on her website.

Apparently there's also some other stuff going on behind the scenes because the interview was recorded before being broadcast and the radio station could have edited out the comments but chose instead to broadcast them as they were.

Ready made FG reply message below, copy, paste and fill in the blanks or select the appropriate items:

Another talentless J-pop singer bites the dust! What number is this one?

Who is offended by this? Women who wait to have kids increase the likelihood that they won't have kids due to lower fertility and are more likely to have kids with birth defects, like down syndrome. It's kind of like the amniotic fluid rots or something.

Besides, with Japan's low birth rate, how many mothers or prospective mothers are there to be offended by this?

How can you determine if she is talentless or not? I reckon that you don't become a household name by being talentless. It may not be to your taste but talentless she is not.

The rate of increase for birth defects is only a few percentage points higher in women over 35. This, repreoduce by 35 is all BS to keep women pushing them out so the militaries have able bodies and companies have consumers to buy their products.

How old is Kumi Koda? I volunteer for seed deposit duty in her case.

And I opt for traditional seed plantation. No needle, just tubesteak. Pure Pennsylvania Brown Python.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

The newswires seemed to be hoping that the Avex stock price would fall sharply this morning as it did after the announcement by Ayumi Hamasaki that she'd gone deaf in one ear. Sadly for them, it rose along with the rest of the market.

That depends on your interpretation as to what you consider musical talent. Definitely, the woman has no brain talent(reading what she had said to cause this ruckus)Just because she is selling thousands of records in Japan doesn`t constitute her as being talented. This is my personal opinion, Yea, for some she may be more appealing and cooler than Pink Floyd or George Benson, but I summit to you, she would never even come close to selling 1/3 of her music in either Europe or the States. What she is selling in Japan, might be good enough though.
Truly music is in the ear of the beholder and growing up in the music capital of the world, I have a little knowledge of what a true musician is.
If you are a fan, more power to you and I respect that. For me though, like Utada, Seiko Matsuda and all the rest that have sooo tried in vain to make it big across the pacific, but to ultimately fail miserably.

I don't particularly like J-pop but I would not say those people are talentless. I don't know the history of how Kumi Koda became successfull but like AO says, put me in line as well.

Utada Hikaru or Seiko Matsuda (she appeared in a couple of Hollywood films) are other exampples of music that i don't like. But correct me if I', wrong Utada write all her songs doesn't she? Those people are talented, you and I just don't like that kind of music.

Like I've said before, the day the spineless J-media starts putting politicians under the same microscope that meaningless idols and sports figures get subjected to is the day heads get put on pikes in Nagata-cho.

And a damn beautiful day that would be...

You grew up in Vienna? Beautiful city.

She's just been on Fuji TV looking like she's dressed for a court appearance, wearing a dark suit and plain make-up. Tears and contrition.

As a very healthy 36 year old mother-to-be in a couple of months with the next Karate Kid in my tum (so it seems) I want to see this stupid cow also tearing at her hair and wrenching at her clothes.

My resident rice cooker had a couple (maybe it was a litter, I don't remember), when she was 43 and 44. I don't know if she had a rotten crotch, or not (a little worn maybe), but the kids turned out alright, at least no different then the bunch she had in her thirties!

So can we call you a rotter?:)

Interesting medical point. Rotting of tissue is more often then not caused by infection. Given her interesting past, I am wondering to whom the moniker 'Rotten Womb' might best apply.
