AFP: Japan's Don Juan, 65, arrested in million-dollar fraud
As Japan grows older, so do its tricksters. Police said Tuesday they had arrested a 65-year-old man in a million-dollar fraud case in which he preyed on bar hostesses around the same age. Yukichi Kamibeppu distributed DVDs in which he literally sang his own praises, including an original tune called "I'm a famous handsome guy." He confessed he swindled money by proposing marriage to women around 60 years old, a police official said. He was arrested in Osaka on charges he defrauded a 57-year-old bar hostess of 12 million yen..."We are investigating his other crimes as he told us he had defrauded a total of 370 million yen (three million dollars) from 16 people," including another 148 million yen from the same 57-year-old woman, the official said...Despite his self-promotion, Kamibeppu is "an ordinary-looking man, though he may look younger than 65," according to the police official.
