I gave whale meat a try when I went to Japan, but did not find it particularly appealing. My mother-in-law (Japanese) screwed her nose up big time when she saw me trying to eat it, so obviously she did not really like it...I did have it raw however....I rarely saw it when I was in Nagoya or some of the other areas i visited....but they were mostly inland in the mountains, so I doubt they would have traditionally eaten much.....

raw whale meat? do people actually eat that stuff? might wanna get yourself to a clinic for chelation therapy.

Raw whale meat and fish sucking air

Postby ColinizeR » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:23 am

After the first two weeks of an all Japanese diet, I didn't need chelation therapy....trust me...and from what I am led to believe, the Nagoya diet can be a bit different at times...

But delicious...for the most part...whale meat was the thing I liked least in Japan...

The only thing I refused to eat in Japan was a still breathing fish, that was having sashimi sliced from its back. It had been plucked from a tank live and skewered, in a Yamachan izakaya in Nagoya. I passed on that....I prefer my meat dead....I had Basashi (horse sashimi) when I was in Matsumoto and that was not too bad...with a dipping sauce of course :)

However, just about everything else was delicious and absolutely sublime...
I went to some kick ass restaurants...

The McDonald's tasted exactly the same, but the service was better in Japan than Australia :p

Hey angry aussie,
I too opposite hunting whale over the demand of J-market. Whaling is part of YKZ money sources. But before saying that like a hero fighting evil, change your opinion. As I said before, anti-whalers should change their perverted cultic opinion that whale hunting itself is wrong to get supports of J-nationals. Instead Say "Hunt and eat not to destruct the whole ecosystem of sea and not to become over the domestic demand". If you anti-whalers do so, not a few J-nationals will get to support their activity and J-govenment too will move.
You aussies need rationale.

Actually, I dont care if the Japanese whale or not :karma2:
Minke whales are not endangered, so they could be hunted sustainably...
I eat many animals, I don't care if they are intelligent or not...

I even tried whale myself, to see what it tastes like, but I didn't like the taste....but I ate it raw...maybe it is better cooked....

In a perfect world, everyone is vegetarian....DEMO, NIKU GA TOTEMO OISHII DESU

I have hunted and killed many kangaroos in Australia and they are also delicious...but there are millions of them as well

So don't judge all Australians based on the media reports....I just thought the article was interesting
