The dude is already guilty. Haven't you read the papers? I have yet to see anything citing her as stating she was raped. Attempted? Maybe. Assault, maybe.
Basically, the articles I have seen are charging offenses that have apparently not been alleged or proven yet, so I really don't know what to believe.
I think we just have to wait for the official report. Whichever, the dude is obviously an order of fries short of a Happy Meal, but a rapist?
It is the major allegation in this case, but I think the least we should do is wait a bit to see what occurs from here, before we get the nooses out and break down the jail house door! We can count on the media to keep playing it for the political ramifications, so we should have plenty of chance to follow the entire investigation.
I'm also not beyond the set-up theory either, but having said that, if it was, the guy had to be an all-out idiot, pervert, high on something, or all of the above, to fall for it.
BTW for Take's economical imput, the only money paid by Japan that goes to salaries, are for his fellow Japanese base employees, who under the Master Labor Contract are junkomuin and their salary is subsidized in part by the J-government. The rest of the money paid by Japan, goes to construction and maintenance of facilities, all of which is done by Japanese companies. This is because all bases and properties belong to Japan, to wit: the Defense Facilities Agency of the Ministry of "Self Defense" of Japan.
However, even these payments have only been from several years in the past as all monies for US Forces and large stipends for the Self Defense Agency operations, research and development were previously totally paid by the US Government.
