Thanks Gboothe.
Yeah, a 'jigger' is on par with a 'wigger'. Same attitude, different cultural background.

Imitation may be the most sincere sort of flattery, but a lot of what is imitated when viewed on the 'other' (non blacks) reeks of idiocy and bufoonery and it becomes unflattering and thus irritating.

Your point is in the right direction, but not quite. I may never be able to say the "N" word, but Jigger can be in anyone's vocabulary regardless of the race. I don't know what other word is available to describe the Japanese posers trying to be black.

Afro-taku? ;) Or should it be 'Afr-otaku'?

gboothe wrote:"....Vanilla always has the Jiggers and Wannabees....". I first heard Jiggers from a brother from Yokosuka and thought at first he was calling them that from the annoying little bugs that always bite you on the legs. When it became apparent that he wasn't talking about that, I asked him what it meant. He told me that the black guys at in the Yokosuka area coined it for the J-dudes trying hard to be a brother. He said they are real pests and always bothering any brother that came around to show that they are really black, not Japanese!

However, as your basic blue eyed, white devil (as Mr X used to say), I don't think I am authorized to use the expression. That is senmonyougo that only brothers can use appropriately.

Oh, I got it. Nevermind then. I've heard people in the US say it as a combination of "jig" and "nigger", so it had an entirely different impact on me when I read it. Although he did write "the Jiggers and Wannabees who think they are black", so wouldn't that be redundant? Or is he talking about those South Asian guys that shave their heads and dress hip-hop so J girls will think they're black and give it up?

I guess I need to be schooled...

Why are some allowed to use the 'N' word but others can't? Is it trade marked and I would be required to pay some fee?

Either it should never be used or used by everyone.

Maybe I should think about this...I won't let the wife use the word 'fuck' but I do all the time...

Velfarre Entertainment, the guys who ran the old Roppongi Velfarre for Avex, are backing a new club in Ginza. Club Romantico will open on the 9th May. The Latin-themed venue is only set to run for a year and will only open until midnight. News release in Japanese here.

One of the last genuine clubs remaining in the Roppongi area is due to close. Yellow has been in business near Nishi Azabu crossing since 1991 but will shut its doors at the end of June. It was first opened by the managers of P. Picasso in Nishi Azabu and Cave in Shibuya and built a strong reputation among clubbers, regularly attracting overseas DJs and bands. Inevitably, people are wondering whether Yellow has fallen victim to the same pressures that finished off the likes of Vanilla and Velfarre. The clubs site explains that the landlord of their current building is planning to redevelop the site but there are no plans at the moment for the club to re-open in a new location.

I actually went to Yellow before. The sound system is awesome. Cool place. To bad it's closing down.

I wonder how much of Roppongi Hills decline is directly related to the "cleanup" of Roppongi...

I'm sure there's more than a casual connection, I obviously can't say whether it's a causal one. I'm sure there are FG's on this board who are much more qualified to address that question.

Mori and Mitsui among other corporate interests are the parties who are pushing for the clean-up so the closing of clubs and knocking shops isn't the reason Coach and Versace have pulled out. Roppongi Hills is seeing tenants cancel because the rent is too high, not because the location is bad.

Wow! I had some good times at Yellow. I am sad but not as sad as when they closed Blue in Aoyama.

Wow. Sad to see Yellow go. Although I haven't been there in a year or so, and I always saw it as a cavernous fire hazard.. But I did have my share of fun, and the people were always friendly.

Right now, sections of Roppongi Hills are boarded up with 'Sayonara/thank you' or 'renewal' posters. Hollywood Plaza has something like 22 shops closed. A fraction of them are set to reopen. It makes me wonder if the shops that still remain are making any money; The place literally looks like a ghost town..

Still a lot of fine chicks though.

Seems like even in terms of a "random sampling" of the people on this message board...Yellow did draw a crowd. Yeah I also thought the people there were pretty friendly.

Roppongi Hills actually started to decline the minute GuyJean moved in. Everybody else began bailing out like a Chinese fire drill. I had to put in for an intra-office transfer to Shinbashi to get out from under his evil web....

I'd like to think that I will one day be recognized as the reason that Toranomon tumbled into the sea.

I see, you want your own area to decimate on your own. Well, if they keep cleaning up Roppongi and Kabukicho, those areas will be ripe for re-deflowering.

I don't think you remember correctly]you[/I] who showed me the Peking Duck side of High Touch Town.. Just never heard it called the 'fire drill'. :p

It would be ironic if Heartland was the only place actually making money in R-Hills: 'PLAYPEN OF DEATH!'.. I heard a rumor a few years back that Mori wanted them out because they didn't want the the 'bad image'..

When will people learn that drunk people spend money foolishly everywhere, while snobbish people spend money foolishly selectively?.. (too many adverbs?)
