Bank statements + spouse visa extension

Postby gomichild » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:22 am

I know that immigration is infamous for giving you a different answer everytime you ring them but seriously.....

I wanted to confirm with them about bank statement documents as I work for myself and not a large formal company. They said that just print outs of my bank statements are fine.

Now where the argument with my husband crops up is that he is convinced I need to do something with these bank statements - although what I'm not sure. I think they just need to possess evidence that I am actually earning money.

Has anyone had to submit bank statements with their spouse visa extension application before? If so did you need to do anything in particular to them?

(BTW the number for English assistance for the Tokyo Immigration Information Center is not listed on their website. It's actually 03 5796 7112.

Nobody there will actually be able to speak English to any level of competency beyond reading off of a list of requirements. You are better off ringing the Japanese information number if you can.)

I've done it, but not for renewing a spouse visa. In my case they literally just took photocopies of the last page of my tsucho.

Ready made FG reply message below, copy, paste and fill in the blanks or select the appropriate items:

Are they also asking for the certificate from the ward office to show how much you declared on your last tax return? I have had that requested before but not for immigration but for other things. It is a fab certificate though as it shows how much tax you paid, and how much you earned etc. All official.

I have always found that providing more docs than you think you need helps at immigration.

But if they are just asking for bank statements, print them off from your internet bank account and that will suffice. Shinsei have an easy way to do this.

Oh I have the tax statements from the ward office in addition to all the print outs from Shinsei already.

As well as every other doc they want (marriage certificate, family register etc).

I was just needing confirmation that all of those were adequate enough and I didn't need to do anything extra apart from collate them.

GC, there is nothing else that you need to do with the statements. Just bring them along and don't expect to get them back. Sometimes they make copies, sometimes they keep the originals. ;)

Sounds like you're going to be visiting the ward office quite often now with the lil' one coming along.. :D

Thanks halfnip. It's a fair hike from the coast to immigration and I'd hate to have to make the trip twice just to submit the application now that I'm the size of a small car.

Just to follow up on my own question: seems like they needed only the printouts as is, virginal, untouched by human hand etc.
