Although I'm not american....I dont like the anti-american ideas I hear every now and then. I think it reaches really stupid levels....a lot of people like to judge from the biased news that they see on tv. Let's say from Enron to the Katrina disaster...a lot of people mocked the way the goverment did things...they laughed and bragged about it. To be honest...I wonder what they would do if a disaster of that magnitude would strike in their countries.

For instance..when it comes to Latin America we hear all this "anti-yankee".."yankee go home shit". But in the end Latin America asks for help (dont get me wrong..Im still latino)...it seems that we like to bash americans but we still listen to american music, love fast food, and love a lot of things americans do for fun. In that sense we are very similar to japanese.

I understand some people's opinion..but still pisses me off that in spite of the fact that we enjoy a lot of american stuff...we like to bash or mostly categorize all americans as rednecks. Which I do not find fair, just as much as I dont like the beaner nickname..

Actually, the study of the development of the "nigger/nigga" as a commonly used word to its becoming a racial brickbat is interesting from the lexicology point.

The history of the word is often stated to have originated from the Latin word niger, meaning black. That also being the name of a major river in Africa led to the river being held by some schools as the root of the name. However, the word became a noun, negro (black person) in English, and simply the color black in Spanish and Portuguese.

I did a google search and came up with several references stating that in Early Modern French, niger became negre and, later, negress (black woman) making it unmistakably a part of the word's lexical history.

It's easy to then see where you can compare negre with the derogatory nigger and earlier English mis-uses such as negar, neegar, neger, and niggor that developed . It would most obviously seem that the origin of nigger is the phonetic spelling of the white Southern mispronunciation of Negro.

However, be that as interesting as it might be, the unauthorized or wrong use of the Big N on my block and it will still get you cut five ways!

Yeah, I realize all that and might be the first person to do the cutting. But the taking ownership of the word and really using among ourselves as our own word in order to take the sting out of its use or even to describe our own wretchedness was part of Pryor's legacy.

But Rich is my main man, God bless him. I've listened to his stuff all my life and now I find there are some things of his I want to hear and not sure where I can find it. Like his TV skit he did with Lily Tomlin called "Juke and Opal"

Actually, beaner has been around before Cheech & Chong came along. The older folks used it more than others.
