JR Mobile Suica Promotion Campaigns

JR is experimenting with a new ticket gate which will play a tune when you pass your mobile suica over the touch pad. The IC card suica will do nothing so the gate is designed to encourage people to use suica on their keitai. It's the brainchild of a team of students at Keio university who won a competition to find ways of promoting the mobile phone suica service. A Waseda University team also won for their "Eki-sercize" concept:

Imagine this scenario: wife forgets which of her 18,000 purses she left her Suica inside.

CARD: Suica resurfaces after 6 months, next time she uses the same purse. Repeat often, lending 3000 yen to the Bank of JR for a new card, each time.

KEITAI: just dial the phone number from another phone and see which purse starts vibrating.

Not that anything remotely like this ever happens in my home.

On a side note, I also like being able to recharge my keitai suica by credit card, just by pushing a few buttons on the phone.
