Amazon

Postby canman » Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:21 pm

Does anybody know will Amazon japan let you order a book from one of their other sites. There is a book that is offered on the Canadian Amazon, but not the Japanese site. IF i order directly from Canada the shipping, even for surface mail is more than the cost of the book. So can I ask Amazon Japan to order it for me? Just wondering. God I hate shipping charges, what a rip off. I really wish some company would come up with fair but trustworthy shipping options.

Does it show up if you change the language of the Japanese amazon site to English? Sometimes that helps for me... also did you try searching by ISBN number on the Japanese amazon site?

I hate this shipping shit too... it's either pay absurdly inflated Japanese prices, or go cheap with N.American prices but then get your asshole handed to you in shipping charges... :) Often times you can win in either case if you compare the prices and the exchange rates on any given day.

I believe they run the national level domains as separate businesses...while they may share distributors for some products (and product volume discounts) they don't have links to one another in a direct sense....you have to open up a new separate account with the foreign amazon in order to use them.

Yep. I've tried several times to get them to send items that just weren't available on the Japan site, but no go, even after begging and cajoling on the phone.

Thanks for the help. As usual the shipping is so outrageously priced. The damn book sells for $14.95 and the shipping for it is $15.25. How does that make sense. I'll check out the ISBN and hope that I can find a copy of it. I guess my other option is to have someone in my family to buy it for me and send it themselves.

Years ago, there used to be a bookstore online with free international shipping. You could order the book with the ISBN number from an overseas supplier, then pick it up at the closest bookstore.

I believe they'd just add your book to the crate that was already being shipped to Japan.. You only paid for the shipping within the country.. But I can't remember the name.. And I doubt it's still in business, for some reason..

Plus you get to pay import tariff when it arrives here!

Have your family send it, and mark it as a personal item, cheapest option available.

Have you tried to see if you can find the book you want through www.abebooks.com ? Very often I can find cheaper books there and you can also compare the shipping from the different sellers.
