Osusume Ketai WHAT CELL PHONE SHOULD I GET?

Postby Torimaro » Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:06 am

I got here a few days ago and my better half is itching for her Denwa. Which one should I get? I obviously need one with fucking television but other than that im open to different styles and options. Also, are extras like internet connection and such a huge part of the bill or what?

What sort of research have you done? All the major carriers have English sites that explain the variety of features and functions. Everybody has different needs and there will be a phone out there for you but without knowing you it is hard to recommend.

Some questions:
Do you regularly cath trains/public transport and need to be entertained with music/tv/internet while you are travelling?
Do you want mobile suica/mobile wallet features?
Do you want the phone to work overseas on a roaming plan? If so which countries?
Do you want games, downloadable apps etc?

The other thing apart from the features of the handset itself is the contract you get. Remember that the cheapest monthly plan on paper may actually not be the cheapest one for you in the long run. If you are going to use lots of internet, tv, email etc go for a packet houdai plan - so you have unlimited use of these features. These may be around ¥8,000 or more a month but you will save a packet (sic) in the end. For example, I am a heavy keitai user (duh) and my bill before packet houdai was sometimes ¥30,000 or more. Now I use it even more and pay only around ¥10,000 a month. I am a mobile blogger so send lots of photos around.

Do some research and then get back to me for suggestions.

holy shit... Im not going to spend that much a month for sure but i would like some music capability and maybe some internet. i wont need roaming or games or whatnot. we went to some freaking place and the family plan was surprisingly cheap so i guess we will go with that plan as the add ons shouldn't kill us. im off to look at the websites. Do all phones switch to english?
