The Japanese government nominated Tuesday former vice-minister of finance Koji Tanami as the next governor of the Bank of Japan (BoJ), an official of the main opposition party said. The opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) immediately disagreed with the nomination, raising the likelihood of a leadership vacuum at the BoJ amid persistent instability in the financial markets.
