Mainichi: Stoned man cleared of stealing vehicle due to mental incompetence
A foreigner accused of stealing a woman's car and injuring her and a passenger was cleared of the crime after a court found that he was under the influence of drugs and was mentally incompetent at the time. However, the 34-year-old defendant, Jamshid Mohammadi, was found guilty of violating illegal drug and immigration laws, and was handed a suspended prison sentence in the ruling at the Gifu District Court on Monday. Presiding Judge Mihoko Tanabe handed Jamshid, a resident of Nagoya's Chikusa-ku, a two-year prison sentence, suspended for four years, for violating the Stimulants Control Law and the immigration control act, by illegally residing in the country. Jamshid used stimulants in a car parked at the side of the road in Kaizu, Gifu Prefecture, on June 6, 2006, according to the ruling.

This is insane. There has 'got' to be some unseen relationship between Japan and Iran. Iranians run drugs on the streets of shibuya with impunity, while most gaijin (westerners included) will get jailed and deported if they raise their voice to a taxi driver. What hell is the special relationship that gives Iranians so much leeway in Japan???
