Well, who would have ever thought that this day would come, finally! About time. It just disgusts me as to how many selfish people live in this country. No one ever gives up their seat for the elderly and pregnant women. Time and time again, have I witnessed teenagers and especially the men, not wanting to give up their seats or to pretending they are sleeping. This is a good thing, a start at least.
And while they`re at it, they need to have the "porn" police on the trains too, encouraging these perverted old men to stop looking at these raunchy magazines in front of women and kids in a public environment.

The second year of Meiji. Actually, I do remember the days when you could see that happening. When an elderly person boarded a train, someone would literally jump up to give them a seat.

You know, I thought I'd seen it before but assumed I'd just read this one. Sorry to have let the mighty WaiWai down.

Soooo let me get this straight, in your POV, it`s alright for children and women to have to be subjected to the selfishness of self-centered men, that give a rats
ass about anyone, but themselves. How would you feel, if a man would do that in front or your child? Not that I don`t appreciate, how did you put it, "Japanese stroke mag" I think people have the right(within context)to do as they please, as long as it doesn`t offend women and little children, otherwise, I ain`t got no problem with it.
So before you tell someone to "F-off" open your door, get some fresh air, STOP sniffing the glue, take a nice long walk and smell the roses, reality will surely hit you upside your head and knock you back to your senses!

Are you talking about reading a dirty mag on a train? In that case I don't really see it is that big a problem. You make it sound like it is some sort of sexual assault. And what's the deal with "women and children"? Are women such fragile creatures that they can't deal with someone reading pornmags? Relax.

Are you ok? Sarcasm aint big where you come from is it? Either that or you need to go down to your local combini, buy the latest issue of Nyan Nyan Club, walk back to you smelly little appartment, close the door, and have a NICE BIG WANK! :bukkake: Thats the best way for an uptight dork like yourself to relax. I mean, it aint like they sell senses of humor down the combini.

You are correct that people should not need to be rewarded for engaging in common courtesy. But the fact is that myself and others have observed that many Japanese are not being courteous on trains, even though we all agree that they should be. So rather than throw ones hands up in the air and do nothing, why not offer trivial incentives that also raise public awareness.

On a side note, as a women, I don't care if people read porn on the trains, as long as they do it quietly and secretly. (By hiding any offensive art or text on the cover, holding the pages close to their body to minimize others from seeing it, and by not doing any unusual behaviour such as touching themselves.)

Though I do it, I don't like giving my seat up here because people make such a big fucking deal of it when I do. You have to fight with them to take it most of the time and then they're overly apologetic. It makes me uncomfortable.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of manner police. I know most of the young guys who refuse to get up are just being assholes, but you never know who has a sprained ankle or something.

Not sure if I have a problem with 'officials' walking around 'reminding' punks to get up if they're in the Silver Seats..

But the Yokohama Subway is way out of hand; EVERY fucking seat is considered a 'silver seat'.. Creates fucking musical-chair mayhem every stop. Designate half the seats to the raisins, but not all of them.. There is no 'relaxing' on Yokohama Subway.

Maybe I'm not going to receive any of those little "I'm a good gaijin" pins, but when I'm sardined against some guy reading a turbofist masturbation magazine on the train, depending on my mood (the more crowded, the more foul), I've often said to the guy, "Damn, she's got some big tits! You like tits?" Dude is usually mortified beyond belief and tends to get off at the next stop.
If I'm with a friend on the train and someone is coughing without covering their mouth, I start talking about how I haven't been feeling good since I got back from the Congo after taking those samples from Ebola patients. Gf is starting to get into this and has asked me if I coughed up blood again this morning. Train seems to get less crowded, which is fine with me.

There were also some advantages to the first announcements of Aids in Japan and that it was transmitted only by FGs, or that all FGs had Aids. Your mere presence in a train car demanded room and you could get a seat with no difficult as people would scramble to get out of your way. The ofuro was also great, after a kaisha sponsored golf tourney, the fellows from my office and I walked in to the golf club's ofuroba and since we had played late in the day the ofuro was fully of drunk, tired old men. We got washed, but there was not enough room for us in the rather expansive ofuro itself. I told the fellows "watch this" and did a canonball into the ofuro. It looked like the survivors deserting the Titanic and in a hot three seconds, I was the only one in the ofuro and my fellows slipped right in and we had whole thing to ourselves until I got out. Then and only then, would the cussing and spitting oyajis come back to get in the bath.

That period was an insultive time over here, but it was not without its merits.

Faking being retarded and drooling usually gets you some space.

But it Tokyo for God sakes -you choose to live there, you get the the obligatory gyoza breathed nose picker to entertain you on the commute.

Yeah.. The other day I was so disgusted by this digger-and-eater punk, I broke out my cell camera and took a picture in his direction. I didn't get him in the shot, but the sound made him stop..

Why is picking your nose and eating bugers in public ok in Japan? Is there some samurai, ninja, warrior connection?

I used to offer my seat to old women or people with injuries, but they always protested rather fervently. As if basically what I was saying is that they were old or weak. Which if you think about it, is actually what were saying as a society when we expect people to give seats to certain people.

First come, first serve is so much easier and removes the possibility of embarrassing anyone. And naturally embarrassment is worse than physical pain of having to stand so...

Doing something nice in japan is too problematic. It starts this stupid endless cycle of them having to pay you back, and then you having to pay them back and on and on. Then you feel bad for putting someone in debt to you and decide it'd been better to have never done anything nice in the first place to place them in debt to you.

hopefully the train manners police will just make a clear that it is a rule, not a favor or anything kind.
